WATCH: Kalki Koechlin Silences The Noise On World Music Day

Actor, writer, poet, singer — is there anything Kalki Koechlin can’t do? As part of Culture Machine’s Unblushed series, Kalki presented Noise, a powerful poem on the different kinds of noise we all encounter and live with, including the everyday sounds of the city, the tunes we are forced to jam to in the name of religion, the notes of the music we choose to play on our fancy devices, the words we hear from friends and loved ones, the discriminatory abuses woman have to endure, and so much more.

Speaking at the preview yesterday, Kalki said she felt compelled to write this because it’s something we all experience, through the day, every day — some we choose to ignore, some we take to our graves. The ability to just be, to listen to silence, and to be able to balance it all out is quickly getting lost. And you know what? We couldn’t agree more.

We won’t tell you much more. Watch this powerful piece of art above that has been released on the occasion of International Music Day. And check out our interview with the inspiring artist, who is not only extremely talented and intelligent, but is as real as you and I are.
