Bihar Government To Give 35% Quota To Women Officers In Field Posts

There is no doubt that things for women in Indian society are taking a turn for the better. With campaigns promoting better representation of women in various spheres, there are measures being taken to ensure better opportunities for women across the country. From providing them with 33% reservation in medical and engineering colleges to ensuring a decent representation of women on on-field jobs, it is a journey that many state governments have started on.
Recently, CM Nitish Kumar, Bihar, has taken official steps to ensure that a minimum of 35% reservation of women officers should be posted on SHO to the SDM levels. The General Administration Department (GAD), after receiving the order, has started a survey to fish out information on the female employee and officer strength in their respective departments. The details of which will be passed on to CM Nitish Kumar during the next meeting on 2nd July.

The order is a well-thought step taken into the direction of women empowerment in Bihar. This order ensures that more female employees will take up the position of sub-divisional magistrates (SDM), circle officers (CO), block development officers (BDO), and station house officers (SHO).
Dr. Archana Kumari, a woman educationist, noted that “Thanks to Nitish Kumar, Bihar has the highest number of women cops (23,245) in the state’s total strength of police force of 91,862. Besides, 50% of the total posts of Panchayat Raj institutions are held by women.”
These are baby steps taken by the Bihar government for creating better opportunities for women in the future. It is with those tiny steps and the support from society that we will be able to empower our women and create a future where we don’t have to depend on anyone or anything for our own betterment.
