An Instagram Model Raised 500K By Exchanging Nudes For Donations For The Australian Bushfires. Instagram Disabled Her Account. WTF?

There is thing about how the ‘end justifies the means’, that I have almost always found very hard to relate to. And I say almost here because, this might be the first time that it has made so much sense to me and how. This is after American Instagram model Kaylen Ward managed to raise almost 500 thousand dollars after she promised to send nudes to everyone who even decides to donate as little as 10 dollars to the cause of the Australian bushfires that have held entire cities at ransom.

Fires that even though have been breaking out in parts of Australia since September, have recently gone rogue and spread dangerously far, damaging and destroying wildlife in the huge areas. People have been evacuated from their homes and have been seeking shelter along the beach, in hope of some relief. In a time that is as heartbreaking and challenging as such, they’ve been getting support from the world, and some people have actually decided to make use of their presence on social media, to bring about change. Kaylen being one of them.

With a hope to raise as much relief fund as possible through her efforts, Kaylen incentivised the act of donation in her own quirky way, by promising to privately sending nudes to every individual who decided to donate to the cause of Australian Bushfires. And to our surprise, the Instagram model, successfully raised over 500K for the same. Claiming herself to be a naked philanthropist, Kaylen,  was able to raise something substantial in such little time, and for that we laud her.

You’d think it was a good thing, right? Using your popularity to back a cause? It is. We thought so too. Till news about her account being blocked emerged. We think it was rather unnecessary. Notifying Kaylen over how her recent activities on the social media platform have been soliciting sexual services and do not meet the community standards and guidelines, the nude model now stands with no Instagram account. And to that, we’d like to suggest Instagram to shove their standards where the sun doesn’t shine.

With Kaylen announcing to share her nudes, and by her own free will that is, she did not just draw attention, but also money while at it, and we don’t see anything wrong or vulgar about it. In fact, there have been several times when real offensive and vulgar content, with no undertone of supporting a cause, goes under the radar and is even encouraged because it keeps people on the platform. But when a woman actually did manage to make use of her social media presence, and for a matter this serious, her efforts were banned.

And what makes us even more furious is the fact that even though the model started this barter with a tweet on Twitter, Instagram after having caught wind of her charitable intentions, deactivated her account on Insta too. And we think, this level of policing is not just cringe-worthy but also unacceptable. Here is hoping that Instagram realises the kind of dick move they’ve played and manage to see beyond the ‘acceptable community standards’, because at this rate if the fires keep spreading, there would be no community left to tether to the standards of.
