All India Football Federation Announces Plan To Create An Exclusive Department For Women

There is no doubt that FIFA World Cup 2022 is making headlines these days, fans from across the globe are celebrating it like a festival. Well, if you are a female football enthusiast, here is a piece of good news for you that will make you jump with excitement. All India Football Federation (AIFF) recently announced that it will soon have an exclusive department for women.

On Thursday, Shaji Prabhakaran, the secretary general of the All India Football Federation announced that they are all set to create an exclusive department for women which is a part of its structural revamp. He mentioned that they are in the process of setting up a separate women’s department. Prabhakaran made the announcement during the first meeting of the national body’s women’s sub-committee which is chaired by Valanka Alemao.

The meeting held via video conference was attended by deputy secretary general Sunando Dhar along with former India players Thongam Tababi Devi and Sujata Kar. Thomas Denner – Indian women’s team head coach was also present in the meeting as a special invitee. In an AIFF release, Shaji Prabhakaran added that a girls’ ‘Festival for Football’ will be organised by state associations from January 1 to promote women’s football across the country.

The Committee recommended the AIFF to award cash prizes in the Senior Nationals and participation certificates to all the players in the Indian Women’s League in order to incentivise player performance. It also said that there should be zonal camps and zonal academies for girls.

The Committee also recommended that the under-13 girls’ festival and the Federation Cup should be revived and leagues similar to the U-17 Khelo India League should be held at the U-13 and the U-15 levels too.
