The advent of technology was meant to bring people closer but now, it looks like it is distancing them. I am not saying that consumption of content is bad, no. But the way it has now begun occupying our time and personal space is what is concerning. Each day looks scarily similar to an episode from Black Mirror, and I am sure the day is not far when we would live the show’s reality. Ladies, taking a break from technology every now and then is very important for your mental health, and also to form meaningful relationships. Holistic health expert, Dr Mickey Mehta has shared some tips on how to create a tech-free environment for oneself.
Technology is great, and we’re living it but it is its overuse that is the cause of the problem. Dr Mickey Mehta advises these 9 tips to get out of the digital rut and make better use of your time:
1. Creating family bonding time
Dr Mehta says that families should have designated time allotted to spend together. ” Outdoor activities like walks, park visits, and trips to natural settings provide an opportunity to rejuvenate the mind and appreciate the beauty around us,” he says.

2. Engage in creative activities
Another way to distract yourself from digital devices is to engage in creative activities. Dr Mehta says that one must encourage art, music, writing, gardening, or other creative outlets for children and adults alike. Ladies, it is time to get back at your hobbies which are collecting dust. Utilise your free time in pursuing hobbies instead of doomscrolling.

3. Age-appropriate activities
If you have kids or younger siblings in the house, then it is the best time to engage them in activities like puzzles and board games to steer clear of mobile, TV and tablets.

4. No phones before bed
A strict policy of no phones before bedtime should be implemented. Dr Mehta advises avoiding screens before bed and engaging in calming activities like reading or storytelling. Ladies, you can engage in healthy conversations with your partner, or simply cuddle before going to sleep!

5. No phones during meals
Another reason why communication between family members has reduced is due to the usage of electronic devices at mealtimes. Talk to each other at the dinner table and share your day’s activities to build bonds.

6. Set timers for screen usage
This is a great way to reduce your screen time and you can also monitor how much time you spent on digital devices. Dr Mickey Mehta says, “Set timers or use apps to limit screen time or achieve educational goals.” Dearest ladies, check your screen time usage and see what app is occupying the most space in the digital space, and then, you can reduce the time on that app accordingly. You know you are just scrolling down your ex’s social media profile, you know it is time to shut the app!
