Gender stereotypes are ingrained in us right from childhood. Some of the most prevalent ones include that cooking, cleaning and taking care of children is a woman’s job while earning and being the protector of the family is a man’s. While I am sure a lot of us have grown up helping our mothers in the kitchen and household chores, have we thought of what our mums do when we are not there at home to help them? Well, a 17-year-old boy from Kerala gave this thought and made a robot to help his mother. The boy is from Kerala, and has built a female robot that will bring carry newspapers and serve food!
As per reports, the name of the boy is Mohammad Shiad, and he is a student of Vengad E.K. Nayanar Memorial Govt H.S.S. Mohommad has named the female robot, Android Pathooty. The student has made this robot as a part of a school project. The robot is controlled with an ultrasonic sensor and also an app. He said that the robot now helps his mother in the kitchen. The robot can also carry five to six kilos of weight.
Well, if you think the boy has promoted gender stereotypes by making a female robot for this purpose, let me clarify this for you. The boy had asked his mother what kind of appearance does she want for the robot, she suggested that she be a female. Hence, the boy went ahead with his mother’s choice. Mohammad Shiad also went on to say that his brother, father and him both equally contribute to the household chores. And also that he does not ‘intend to send any wrong message’ to society with his invention.
But Internet users were not happy with this choice made by the boy. Many have gone on Twitter to bash him and said that he is promoting gender stereotypes.

The internet has gone to blindly bash the boy’s efforts without knowing why he opted for a female robot’s appearance. He made the robot to help his mother and wanted to respect her choice, so, what is wrong with that?
