5 Ways To Do Denim In The Winter That Will Look Hot And Keep You Snug
Since I live in Mumbai, I am cursed with never getting the sweet satisfaction of a Winter chill. Unless, we are off to a colder place to spend the holidays. There is no need for us to invest in any heavy-duty warm clothes. Having said that, we do need a few lightweight pieces on a couple of days when it does get cold, or on the weekend getaways to Lonavala or Mahabaleshwar (our homeland *wink*). What comes in handy during these trying times (we get cold easy!) are the solid denim pieces we have been hoarding for years. Denim is versatile and can be re-purposed to cut through a cold breeze if need be. If done right, it can also be a complete ensemble you can wear in much colder weather as well.
Seems like we aren’t the only ones to fall back on the denim bandwagon for the Winter. Bollywood’s best and brightest have taken it upon themselves to give us a lesson on how to make the functional denim chic and we already have taken our notepads out!
Denim Straight Co-ords
Kareena Kapoor Khan is a denim fiend! This stylish actress loves her denim basics, a well-fitted pair of jeans with a soft tee being her fave. The only time we see her out of the cool blues is when she glams up for events and promotions. But looks like that’s about to change as well since Bebo carried her denim look to her movie promotions as well and looked sexy while at it. Styled by Rhea Kapoor in Nisse, her denim co-ordinates featured wide-legged pants and a long jacket over a semi-sheer high neck top and suede heeled boots. She looks so hot and snug, we are jealous.
While Bebo’s outfit was more refined, Athiya Shetty kept denim co-ords rather raw. Athiya Shetty wore her Bhaane Canadian tuxedo with an open collar, with the jacket cinched with a fabric belt. Shout-out to those tapered pants as well; they are such an old-school ‘mood’. We love it!
Denim Curvy Co-Ords
While any form of co-ords are a wardrobe essential since they can make our lives so much easier, some women don’t like them for their monotony. There is a solution to this as well. Either you can mix and match different pieces or you can actively seek out curvier denim silhouettes like cinched jackets, skirts and even dresses. Contrary to popular belief, denim is actually quite easy to twist and turn and tailor to our curves and when blended, they are ever more adaptable. We love Sonakshi Sinha’s feminine denim look, it is so pretty!
If anybody comes up to you with ‘Bob the Builder’ jokes for your denim jumpsuit, just say “Bye Boi!” and move on! This style has caught our fashion girls’ fancy and when paired with heels, it makes for a cool genre-bending ensemble that lovers of street style will dig. Rakul Preet Singh is usually in very girly dresses but her Appapop denim jumpsuit is something that we are equally fond of.
Drape It Up
Kriti Sanon’s Diksha Khanna linen maxi dress with a denim collar detail is the perfect combo of comfort and cool. Like we mentioned before, if you are a fan of draped ensembles, a foray into linen and denim blends will take your love to a whole new level. Denim maxis, sarees, dhoti pants and more, can be a great addition to your winter wardrobe. Don’t believe us? Take a look at Sonam Kapoor’s shredded saree from the same label.
Cover Up That Bottom!
While we love and crave for winters, one of the things that bothers some of us is that we can’t really wear some of our most scandalous (read skimpy) outfits. A great alternative to that is to create an illusion with a properly secured bottom half in baggy jeans, paired with lace corset top and smart jacket. Loose the jacket once you are inside the cozy club and nobody needs to be wiser. We wonder where Ileana D’Cruz rocked her sneaky little ensemble at!
