Skinny Scarf Or The Modern Dupatta, Here’s How To Style This Trending Accessory!

A new micro fashion trend is here and is about to take over everybody’s closet this summer. Skinny scarves were first popularised the the West during the early 2000s by top Hollywood girls like Mischa Barton and Kate Moss. Recently seen again on runways are super thin scarves draped around necks that instantly elevate a dress or any outfit in that matter.

What Is A Skinny Scarf?

With the revival of Y2k fashion, accessories from past eras are returning. The long and skimpy scarves, mostly made of wool or silk, are one of the most talked-about and arguably least practical accessories of the past decade now become a must-have for the new generations who are inspired by the icons of years past. Tracing the history of the trend, it dates back to the 70s when rock stars like Rod Stewart and Stevie Nicks wore it on stage as a statement piece while performing. The roots of this trend can also be found in South Asian fashion, as it is eerily similar to dupattas or chunnis which Bollywood icons like Kareena Kapoor wore.

Aside from fashion brands, Celebrities like Bella Hadid are popularing the trend by combining the thin scarf with casual fits like denim maxi skirts. Actress Katie Holmes was seen pairing the thin scarf with an unbuttoned shirt, loose-fitting jeans. In an era marked by the constant need to look good but too little time to do so, the skinny scarf makes a triumphant comeback by winking at the nostalgia trend.
