Why Sabyasachi Getting His Credit In Made In Heaven 2, And Tarun Tahiliani Not Getting His Is Problematic AF!
This is shocking!

Indian fashion has played an essential role in films and now web shows. A great script and great taste in style are what most projects aim at. And a similar route was taken by Prime Video’s Made In Heaven. Presenting stories about weddings, the show masterfully made trends in the category of bridal wear, and wedding decor. From covering weddings of all kinds to churning out some important messages through these marital unions, the show outperformed grand love. Besides the strong plot line, Made In Heaven won praise for its fabulous fashion.
This time, the show as styled by supermodel/costume designer Bhavna Sharma, brought many Indian designer houses under the spotlight. With every new bride, we spotted some of India’s most popular designers. A few names like Sabyasachi, Raw Mango, and Rimple Harpreet were stars among many. But in the recent turn of events, designer Tarun Tahiliani accused the production house of “misrepresentation of his popular designs.” According to a message shared on his official instagram handle, Tahiliani expressed his disappointment in the costume designer for showcasing his designs under the name of a fictional designer.
In a heartfelt note, Tarun mentioned–”It is most unfortunate when a popular OTT series violates the understanding behind the provision of clothing in the first place.” Describing the situation, the note mentioned–”Significant portions of the second episode of Made In Heaven, were styled using clothes provided by the Tarun Tahiliani studio in good faith to the stylist.”
Tarun further complained of misrepresentation and mentioned how some of these designs as seen in the show were designed by him, but due credit was not given. This significant chunk that he mentioned, features actress Mrunal Thakur playing the bride in the story. While Zoya Akhtar’s Tiger Baby Productions mentioned Thakur’s look in the film was designed by Tarun Tahiliani, the rest of the show’s section failed to do the same. Furthermore, Tahiliani expressed hope, for the scenario to not repeat itself with other designers, who have lent their work to other OTT productions.

Reacting to this, some Twitter users seemed to dig deeper into the issue and claimed that Tarun’s disappointment is pretty much fair since his work did not get due credit as Sabyasachi’s in the show.
This.
Also- Tarun Tahiliani has now accused the Made in Heaven team of using his designs in episode 2 attributing it to some other designer on the show (as opposed to what they did with Sabya- showing him AND giving him credit). Will they act the same way with him? https://t.co/0RJTp38amw— Mythili (@MVijay88) August 18, 2023
Ek taraf Yashica Dutt aur ek taraf Tarun Tahiliani, makers of Made in Heaven getting called out left, right and center

Like PR 101?? I also just read that they weren’t upfront with Tarun Tahiliani about how his work would be represented onscreen (and that while Sabya basically got an ad made for him). Solid amateur hour at the Excel offices.

The face of Indian fashion has been curated with a lot of pride, but the dark side of it, exposes how most designers fail to get the due credit for their work. This also decodes the value of creativity in the country. This explains the deeply rooted problem with Indian fashion, and how the industry is still lacking in more than one way.
