SS Rajamouli Accepts Best Director For ‘RRR’ At NYFCC In A Kurta

It is always a moment of pride when Indians win big on a global platform. And recently filmmaker SS Rajamouli received the best director award at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards 2022. According to videos surfacing on the internet, the filmmaker is seen dressed in a traditional, Indian blue kurta, teamed with off-white dhoti, and a same coloured shawl, dressed around his neck.

Receiving recognition for his blockbuster film–RRR, the filmmaker gave a special speech, thanking his family. He further remembered the joy on the audiences’ faces during the film’s release. Videos also featured the audience sitting at the award ceremony, and applauding the filmmaker, as he walks away to receive his trophy. For the immense love that the film has been gathering both in India, and overseas the filmmaker will be joined by actors Ram Charan and Jr NTR, at the Golden Globe awards on January 11, 2023.

Besides the special appreciation that the filmmaker received for his film, what we also loved was his choice of kurta and dhoti to the prestigious awards night. Much like celebrities like–Alia Bhatt, and Deepika Padukone, who chose to represent India in classic Indian attire, Rajamouli’s sartorial choice won him some extra points from fans, who lauded the filmmaker for his simplicity.

The director was further joined by wife–Rama Rajamouli to the awards ceremony, who also chose to wear a classic saree to represent India. While the recognition itself feels special, and full of joy for fans back at home, what makes it look even more special is when celebrities take a piece of India with them when receiving the honour. Previously, many actors appeared for special screening of their films wearing ethnic attires, like a saree, or a version of a kurta.
