From Jacket Sarees To Anarkalis, Sonam Kapoor’s Closet Will Inspire Your Wedding Guest Style

The new year brings with it the glitz and glamour of the wedding season. Besides some much-anticipated celebrity weddings of Kiara Advani, Sidharth Malhotra, Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul, everyone is heading to a shaadi closer to their families. With that, the idea to either be the dulhan’s bridesmaid or just a stylish wedding guest fuels the interest of everyone, to check out new trends, and of course shop the only best. And while most of us seem to be a tad confused between trends and a plethora of designer names, celebrities are here to rescue us. Actress Sonam Kapoor is one of Bollywood’s most well-dressed stars. Be it an intimate puja at home or a big red-carpet event, the actress seeks help from her sister/stylist–Rhea Kapoor to serve an impeccable look.

Inside Sonam’s flavourful wardrobe are some of her favourite designers like–Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Anamika Khanna, alongside unique silhouettes that can cater to the style ideologies of both the minimalists and maximalists. with a bundle of ethnic wear, Kapoor makes sure to experiment with her jewellery and stay in touch with trendsetting colours like pearl-white, ivory, black and gold. For jewellery, the actress loans an heirloom design from her mother Sunita Kapoor’s box of treasure to complete her ensemble. So, as you gear up to be the baraati or a member from the bride’s side, allow Sonam Kapoor to help you be the stylish guest at weddings this year!

Royal Saree

In Sonam’s closet full of sarees, we love her latest one in a pearl-white Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla design. Featuring tonal embroidery, sequins and pearls, the semi-sheer drape on Kapoor was styled using a stunning pearl choker by label–Tara Fine Jewellery. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Sonam added a single dupatta to one of her shoulders, which definitely is an interesting way of styling sarees for winter weddings.

Traditional Lehenga

Kapoor is amongst a handful of celebrities who pay extra attention to details. The actress is known for her deep interest in India’s rich history of embroideries, handloom and colours that she often pays her tribute to. One of our favourite, traditional pieces from the actress’ wardrobe is this lehenga by designer Gaurang Shah. Dipped in the bright shades of beetroot red and sap green, the Tussar Kantha embroidered ghaghara displays an overlay of the spectacular Kanjeevaram border, teamed with an organza dupatta. The actress further styled the look using traditional temple jewellery in gold. The unique twist to the signature Kanjeevaram saree can be your pick for a South Indian wedding this year.

Bringing Back Kalidaars

Bollywood has definitely gone beyond its obsession with royal kalidaars and anarkali suits, with growing interest in lehengas, festive sets and more. But Kapoor seems to rekindle our love for the old-school, classic silhouette, with her latest outings. Earlier for an intimate function at home, the actress revisited a good-old version of the anarkali in handwoven Kamdani and styled with a Kota dupatta. She further took the classic route by pulling up her hair into a bun and decorating it with a gajra. In look two, the actress dressed for the Makar Sankranti puja at home, in an aubergine and tango orange chikankari anarkali and silk Jamdani dupatta. Both designs by popular Indian designer–Gaurang Shah wrapped the essence of the Indian colour palette, striking a balance with heirloom jewellery. This season, make sure to keep a statement anarkali in your wedding guest closet.

The Ivory Fever

Much like half of Bollywood, Sonam Kapoor is currently enjoying the ‘it colour’ of the wedding season, which is ivory. A favourable pick for celebrities at weddings, Kapoor also chose the shade for a get-together at home. This time, she gave a much-comfortable twist to a classic saree with a creative outfit by designer Anamika Khanna. A jacketed saree in Sonam’s version features a long, cape-like dupatta presenting the signature Anamika Khanna embroidery and bold jewellery from mom Sunita’s closet. This silhouette is a delightful choice for winter weddings and is essentially an easy route for those who wish to indulge in the shade of the season.

Fusion Saree

What is Sonam’s wardrobe, without some experiment and a spicy twist? Bringing her spin to the silhouette, Kapoor selected a three-piece saree design by her favourite Anamika Khanna to celebrate Diwali this year. In pictures, we spotted the actress in a unique version of a dhoti-saree, which was not only her version of a fierce silhouette but was a true head-turner. On this, Sonam collaborated with sister Rhea Kapoor, and opted for a pearl-string matha-patti that sat beautifully on her head. Kapoor also accessorised the look using statement anklets (popularly known as payal), with a pair of pearl-white juttis. A definite yes for dressers, who enjoy weaving a look, out of statement jewellery.
