Speaking about nostalgic, retro fashion and Bollywood’s most iconic heroines, the actress recalled the time she recreated the iconic Mumtaz look from Brahmachari. The truly loved, ruffle drape in the colour orange, embellished with gold borders remains the most popular design worn by any Indian actress. Talking about her experience of styling one, the actress mentioned–” I remember I did this one shoot, recreating Mumtaz Aunty’s orange saree. And I still remember how nobody could get that drape, and eventually, they had to stitch it directly on me, and I was wondering how she even danced in that?”

She further added–”And I was like that construction cannot happen now, and I remember there were no pleats on it, which gave Mumtaz ji a very curvaceous silhouette. And what I loved about veteran costume designer late Bhanu Athaiya was how she designed for the actor’s body. And I feel that is very very important.” We totally agree with Sonam! The actress arrived for the Jio MAMI Word To Screen for a special panel discussion on the Art of Costume Design. She further talked about the art of designing for films, and how she never hires her own stylist when working on a film.
