The controversy began when a content creator, @analeecerejo, posted a video on Instagram imitating Janhvi Kapoor’s character in Param Sundari. And in a short time, the video went viral. Many people left comments and among them was Sonam Bajwa, who left laughing emojis in the comment section. Not just Sonam Bajwa, her Deewaniyat co-star, Harshvardhan Rane, also reacted to the post by liking it. While some found it funny, others felt Sonam Bajwa’s reaction was uncalled for.

One reddit user talked about Sonam’s own film choices, like Housefull 5 and Baaghi 4, and added that she shouldn’t be quick to laugh at others. Another reddit user felt Janhvi might face backlash no matter how she responds, even if she were to react to a parody of Sonam’s work.
For the unversed, Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in Param Sundari has been under fire for its depiction of a Malayali character. Many criticised her and the way her character was presented. Malayalam actor Pavithra Menon was among the first to speak out. She shared a video slamming the film’s makers for not casting a local actor or using a dialect coach. Her video was removed from Instagram due to a copyright claim but was later re-uploaded.
Another influencer, Divya Nair, faced a similar issue when her critique video got a copyright strike. In a chat with Mid Day, Divya expressed frustration, saying the Malayalam words Janhvi used were unclear and incorrect.
