What Is A Soft Glam Bridal Look? Dulhans Like Athiya Shetty, Alia Bhatt Chose This Trend!

Yesterday on January 23, 2023, actress Athiya Shetty finally tied the knot with longtime boyfriend/cricketer–KL Rahul. In an intimate ceremony, and in presence of close family members, the couple finally said “I do.” Besides keeping it simple and closer to heart, as the actress chose her dad/actor Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse as the venue, everything was minimal and personal at best. Following a similar route was the actress’ bridal look.

Unlike celebrity brides including Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor, Shetty confirmed the soft bridal glam for her special day. Expressing her love for vintage, old-worldly charm, the actress picked a rose pink chikankari lehenga, designed by Anamika Khanna. With that, Shetty worked with celebrity stylist–Ami Patel and makeup artist–Namrata Soni to achieve the perfect look. A part of the actress’ ensemble was a slim, full-sleeved choli, teamed with a flouncy skirt, and a double dupatta drape, with scalloped borders.

Relying on the dreamy colour for her d-day, the actress picked intricate polki jewellery, with charming kaleeras weaved with a hidden meaning. To my surprise, Shetty used her bridal look as a second skin and not a designer creation that would overshadow her persona on even her special day.
This modern-day romance with colours and unique silhouettes that weave the extra pizzazz to your wedding day look, but don’t look like a bundle of clothes thrown on you, is something that brides are enjoying today. Much like Athiya, 2022’s favourite bride–Alia Bhatt, also took a similar route for her wedding with actor Ranbir Kapoor. Also styled by Ami Patel, Bhatt trusted bridal designer and couturier–Sabyasachi to curate her wedding saree, but her dewy, more natural ensemble displayed her love for soft bridal glam.

A trend that brides are using to not put the additional pressure of dressing up like a Christmas tree, is definitely a more loved trend that even celebrity brides are enjoying. Finding a sacred spot of privacy for themselves, amidst the noise of paparazzi, lurking around the venue, and every fan refreshing their instagram feed to get newly released wedding updates, celebrity couples have successfully whipped a recipe for themselves that is equally special and doesn’t serve to the pressures of what will the internet think. Keeping it simple, and sophisticated, brides are allowing their views on fashion, and most importantly their gut to lead the look.

Simple and soft, this bridal trend involves every bride putting their dream vision for their wedding day on the mood board, as they put the chatter around trends and the internet’s expectations of their bridal look on mute. The idea is to keep it closer to home, heart and all bits natural. The ingredients to achieve a soft bridal glam, as tutored by both Athiya and Alia is to channelise that inner glow through lustrous, dewy makeup. With subtle eyes and glossy nude lip colours, these celebrity brides selected subtle glam over smoky eyes and bright lips.

Unlike the classic red, which has served as a favourite amongst brides for over many years and generations, brides are again in favour of a pastel romance. Much like Anushka Sharma’s big bridal moment in rosy pink, Sabyasachi lehenga and heirloom jewellery, Shetty rekindled our love for sorbet hues and invited India’s favourite chikankari embroidery to her special day look. The idea here is not to allow a colour or embroidery thread to overpower your personality, even if it is your special day. Today, brides are loving the idea of simplicity over a flashy shade that doesn’t shout saying “Look at me, I am the bride.”

What adds to this brilliant recipe of weaving a soft bride is allowing your hair to take its most natural form. In the case of both Bhatt and Shetty, the actresses kept it simple and easy with soft curls and low buns with their veils covering half of their heads. A similar route was taken by multi-hyphenate Rhea Kapoor, who redefined a luxurious bridal look by picking an ivory saree by designer Anamika Khanna and layered it up with a pearl veil and vintage jewellery. Unlike her sister Sonam Kapoor’s more glamorous approach towards a bridal look, Rhea’s minimal face makeup and saree were a big nod to her idea of an intimate wedding setup and celebrating love through the smallest of details.

With especially the colour and makeup, celebrity designer–Arpita Mehta also expressed her love for a more sophisticated and simple look by selecting an ivory lehenga for her special day. With that, many celebrity brides also presented the idea of personalisation, which gives us a peek into their thoughtful gestures towards their partner and themselves as a memory of their union. A similar brilliance was spotted in actress Alia Bhatt’s wedding look, who just like Katrina, chose her pair of kaleeras to pocket special messages. From birds, and clouds to swans and stars, actresses and their love for personalised kaleeras have made it a new trend amongst brides, who take their bridal look beyond colour trends and designer names.

While many brides like Anushka Ranjan Kapoor, happily experimented with bridal colours like lilac, and lavender, some brides like Varun Dhawan’s dulhan Natasha Dalal kept it simple and easy with a white lehenga and a stack of similarly-coloured chooda in place. The celebrity designer’s bridal look also concentrated our attention to indicate details with Disney curls, delicate diamond jewellery, and an impactful maangtika.

With respect to their henna designs as well, bride Alia Bhatt retired the idea of a full-fledged bridal mehendi, and skipped an overtly crowded pattern, and chose simple paisley, geometric motifs, and decorated her fingertips with minimal mehendi. With manicures as well, these brides expressed their love for simplicity by picking French nails, white tips and glazed doughnut nails. A visible common element in the bridal looks of Alia Bhatt, Athiya Shetty, Katrina Kaif and Arpita Mehta.

For every bride-to-be who is hoping to achieve a soft bridal look, make sure of these imperative elements of dewy makeup, tonal embroidery, and subtle colours. With this, you can also decorate your tresses with delicate floral accessories, or just a twinkling maangtika. The idea of a soft bridal look is also to help you nurture your personal perspective on a bridal look, that isn’t fed by the pressure of trends, colours and age-old cuts. It is simply about brides feeling at ease in at least their outfits, amidst the time that already brings a bag full of excitement and anxiety.
