Skechers Mounts Its New Streetwear Collection Over 90s Nostalgia, And Here’s Why You Should Have It In Your Wardrobe

Fashion enthusiasts, designers, and popular brands for years have trusted the idea of reprising nostalgia mixed with newer designs. Nostalgia offers you the luxury to travel back in time. Taking a similar approach for its first designer capsule in India is Skechers. With the launch of its streetwear capsule collection at this year’s Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI, Skechers, the iconic footwear brand, forayed into apparel designs that hit the spot with the youth. Like eagle-eyed fashion enthusiasts, resting our bodies in the front row, we were surprised to watch the nuance brought to prints and fresh colour combinations with colour-blocking headlining most looks.

Besides the incorporation of pop-culture references and breathable fabrics, the collection embodied the sentiment of Gen-Z’s love for versatile clothing. Skechers made fashion look effortlessly functional with well-thought-out and gender-neutral designs trusting Indian designer Kanika Goyal, to help build their new apparel collection, through a lineup of about 31 looks. This latest stint with apparel following the brand and the ethos of comfort mixed with style is titled Retroverse, a collection of prints and peppy colours, with silhouettes screaming both comfort and style.

The 31 looks, mounted over the idea of Vapor-wave and Vapor-core aesthetics, featured a vast variety of crop tees, baggy pants, tracks, and oversized jackets inspired by the classic varsity jackets, and magnetic prints, designed with fresh colour combinations. If you carefully glance at the prints, you will find a reference to culture, 80s sci-fi, music, metal, digital art leading print and patterns. Dancing in the glory of nostalgia, romancing and reminiscing prominent trends from the peak 90s and 2000s, the collection is indeed the newest definition of cool.

Along with a new range of accessories, what Skechers brings to the table is clothing that goes beyond the streets, gyms, workouts or just a coffee date with a friend. Eager to buy your favourites from this collection? Allow us to help you find your streetwear match with our list of top favourites.

Kriti Sanon-Approved

The first piece on our list is the printed dress worn by showstopper Kriti Sanon. Besides the 90s-inspired print design and a refreshing colour palette, the silhouette featured two unique pocket designs, resting around the waist. A statement piece in itself, you can dress it up with sporty denim heels, or a fanny pack or dress it down with Skechers sneakers.

Gender-Neutral Designs

Inclusivity in every way possible was wisely kept in mind while designing. The silhouettes, colours and designs followed fluid, gender-neutral fashion with boxy shirts and oversized jackets that can be worn and styled by anyone. Isn’t it great?

Dual Printed Bottoms

Unlike most streetwear brands, Skechers amalgamated prints with solid hues through joggers and comfortable bottoms. Channelling the main character energy, printed patches were placed against the backdrop of a plain, colourful fabric, exhibiting a funky design. The playful combinations of fuchsia pink, black and lilac were certainly a fresh colour palette to experiment with.

Functional Co-ords

The perfect pick for the lazy girl in you, co-ord sets are a boon for fashion enthusiasts, looking for easy, ready-to-wear options. Skechers, through Retroverse, worked on this category with peppy colours, multiple length options, with drawstring and hoodie details, injecting the idea of comfort.
