Ruffles Are Having A Moment And Alia Bhatt May Have Just Given Us A New Way To Wear Them

There wasn’t a 2018 fashion top 10s list that didn’t have the word ‘ruffles’ in it at least once. The trend came back with vigour last year when being uber-feminine was all Instagram’s fashion girls cared about (besides the likes, of course) It helped that sought-after high fashion labels like Rodarte and Carolina Herrera dedicated the season’s complete catalog to this frilly and delicate fashion moment. Also, ruffles are cute and dainty, allowing girls who love to live in jeans to switch things up a bit with an ‘in your face’ statement ruffled top!

I never understood all the hype around ruffles. They look adorable yes, but as someone who gets “ruffled up” by even the slightest bit of unnecessary fabric, it’s difficult for me to love it. When it comes to adding trims in my basics, I’d pick some sequins, rhinestones or even lace or tulle. But ruffles are just too much of a conversation starter for an introvert like me.

The trend has made many “comebacks” since last year and we are being sneaky because it never left. We are always seeing some form of ruffles being popular with fashionistas on and off the ‘gram. And now it has moved on from tops and skirts to coats, jackets, sarees, vests and pretty much everything else.

Street Style Ruffles

Alia Bhatt gave a throwback moment with her ruffled trench coat from Dhruv Kapoor. Her airport style was put together with solid basics, sneakers and the trench, adding just the right amount of girly charm to the look. While we love a ruffled jacket like any person, our’s comes in denim instead!

Evening Ethnic Ruffles

As mentioned before, ruffles have moved on to some unusual styles since we last obsessed over it. Mira Kapoor showcased how a satin ruffled blouse can elevate an evening saree look with her Manish Malhotra ensemble. It might take some convincing to put us into a ruffled blouse though. Just mention the fact that we can skip the neck accessory and we’d put it on in a heartbeat!

Red Carpet Ruffles

Deepika Padukone is always experimenting and pushing the boundaries of what constitutes a fabulous red carpet look. Her Gauri And Nainika ensemble was a version of a gorgeous black-tie event, with a silky ruffled blouse paired with trousers with a trail. We can definitely argue that statement ruffle takes the pressure off of an ensemble to get noticed instantly. Playing a bit safe, are we?

Ruffled Drapes

It’s time for the ‘twist ending’ in our rant about ruffles, The Sixth Sense got nothing on this one! Having said that we aren’t big fans of ruffles on everything, we’d gladly take any amount of ruffles on our sarees and dupattas. Psst…there’s also ruffled capes that go with lehengas and have the power to transform us into a vision in ethnic wear.
