Rahul Mishra’s Couture Creations In Paris Breaks Away From Tradition

Rahul Mishra makes his international couture debut with a showcase during Paris Fashion Week. The designer who has always created elaborate pieces, which encompass sophisticated constructions, precise cuts and impeccable finishes, treats his designs like a canvas.

His collection Metropolis I displayed at the Garage Lübeck explores the concept of growth – skyscrapers that dot a city’s skyline and modern-day vegetation, find expression as recurring leitmotifs of the season.  Mishra has reimagined his artisanal approach to embroidery, making it lighter than ever to layer thousands of buildings in one delicate organza dress, or place countless hand-embroidered flowers on tulle to create motion and sound exacting the rustling of leaves.

A singular piece in the collection has taken more than 3400 hours of hand cutting and embroidering and is an archetype of the weightless couture that’s synonymous with Mishra’s design DNA. It mirrors the lively flow of a waterfall, made up of a million elements, breaking away from rigid methods.

The 15-piece collection will serve as something of a trial run as Mishra seeks to claim a slot in the next season.
