PS-2 Trailer: From Aishwarya Rai To Trisha, The Women Of ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ Dazzle In Gold, And Silk Sarees
The regal elegance!
The trailer of the PS 1 sequel is finally on our screens and the excitement is soaring high. The latest trailer of the upcoming film presents the cast in the whimsical world of the Chola dynasty. Besides the leading men, actresses–Aishwarya Rai, Trisha and Sobhita Dhulipala make our hearts flutter in their regal avatars. Following the grand costumes of the era, the three return in even more spectacular looks, wearing silk sarees, and gold jewellery. Aishwarya as the revenge-seeking Nandini looks fierce in the second instalment.

This time, she sheds some jewels in a few scenes portraying the age of her character. Her eyes speak volumes and her charm remains intact. With costumes by Eka Lakhani, the actress is seen sporting a handful of kanjeevaram saree in gold and dull brown, teamed with earthy shades of green. Her signature two-piece nose rings, choker and maangtika continue to be a part of her character’s closet. This time, she also sports some sheer, see-through fabrics in the form of sarees, exchanging the crisp silks. As her character ages in the second instalment, Rai and her wrinkled skin and grey hair hint at the shift in the plot.

Trisha as Princess Kundavai exudes royal glamour through her stack of silk sarees, and heirloom jewellery. An imperative part of her costume design was the incorporation of regal jewels, which made the princess stand out above all. The actress is again seen sporting some of the most royal necklaces, hair pieces, septum rings and waist belts. She continues to adore every piece in the new trailer as well. From gajra to statement hair buns, Princess Kundavai cuts a sharp figure with matha pattis, and silk borders in dull gold. We’re excited to watch out for more of her closet in the next instalment.

Actress Sobhita Dhulipala as Vaanathi also makes a comeback in the new trailer. This time again, she remains close to her minimal aesthetic, with saffron sarees and dainty jewellery. From nose rings to maangtikas and earrings, Dhulipala shares a little glimpse of herself in the three-and-a-half-minute-long trailer.

The film based on the novel by Kalki Krishnamurthy earned success and box office numbers. Ponniyin Selvan-2 (PS-2) directed by Mani Ratnam promises grand sets, better VFX and a twisted plot line. The film is slated to release on April 28, 2023.
