Priyanka Chopra’s Yellow Gown Pays Homage To The Saree At The Bluff Premiere
Apparently, Priyanka Chopra asked the designer, Gaurav Gupta to save the canary yellow dress for her after seeing it at a fashion show in January. The actor-producer added that the bright yellow gown (with a sweeping chapel train) reminded her of the best bits of a saree, but modernised. Though seeming simple, it held a “quiet power” due to its precise stitching, draping, and bright hues. Priyanka Chopra thought the piece was “synonymous” with the vibrancy India is known for. Calling it evidence of the universality of fashion from India, she hoped it showcased the evolution and beauty of our heritage.
With its cinched waist, bright corset, and over-the-head drape, Priyanka Chopra’s yellow dress at The Bluff premiere is reminiscent of a saree for sure. Priyanka Chopra’s Yellow Dress Drew Inspiration From The Bluff
Talking about her The Bluff character, Ercell Bodden, Priyanka Chopra mentioned her appearance at the beginning of the film with a dupatta over her head. This, she said, was important because it subtly yet meaningfully detailed Ercell’s self and culture. Adding to this, she spoke of her look at the LA afterparty for the film as discussed above.
The film, directed by Frank E. Flowers, is set in the late 19th-century Caribbean. Ercell is a retired pirate. But she is forced to reckon with this as her past comes to haunt her present. Priyanka plays the lead with Karl Urban, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Temuera Morrison, and Safia Oakley-Green completing the main cast. Furthermore, this marks Chopra’s debut production in the United States and Hollywood under her banner Purple Pebble Pictures.
