Kolhapuri Chappals Take The Global Stage In Prada’s Latest Menswear Line. Know Its Price Here!

After the Scandinavian scarfs trend controversy, the Europeans have taken over our favourite ‘Kolhapuri Chappals’ as well and the internet can’t stop debating! Often, the global fashion houses have taken Indian culture from their moodboards without giving due credit. And in Prada’s Spring Summer 2026 Men’s collection, the models were seen wearing Kolhapuri-esque footwear, making Indians laugh at their distaste.

Prada Showcases Kolhapuri Chappals

At the Spring Summer 2026 Prada menswear show in Milan, models sashayed down the runway in what the internet immediately recognised as ‘chappals.’ Not just any chappals, but the OG leather slides straight out of Kolhapur, worn by grandpas, Bollywood heroes, and cool uncles at Indian weddings since forever. Except now, they’re Prada. And they’re high fashion. And presumably, they cost more than a round trip to Kolhapur.

Popular celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adajania also took this news to her Instagram stories and reiterated that the show’s star was nothing but our usual Kolhapuri chappals. Check out her story here! Many on the internet were shocked to see this showcase on such a big level. One user commented, “Now people will buy chappals worth 1500 pkr for 500$ and will flex their stupidity,” and “Kolhapuris at Prada, Peshawaris at Paul Smith. They didn’t just copy our homework, they turned it into couture.”

While fashion’s love affair with ‘exotic inspiration’ is nothing new (hello, turbans and Nehru jackets on Western runways), this hit differently. The narrow construction, the ringed toe, and the skeletal frame — referring to these pairs of tan exoticism (unfortunately) as anything other than Kolhapuri chappals, would be just another chapter in the expanding volume of rooted Indian design being colonised without a sliver of appreciation.
