Couture Gowns, Dramatic Jewellery, Luxe Fabric And More Significant Style Moments At NMACC Gala

The Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre was inaugurated this previous weekend. For the same, celebrities from Bollywood and overseas walked the red carpet for a star-studded gala. From Zendaya and Tom Holland to Gigi Hadid and Shah Rukh Khan, the two-day-long event was a spectacular celebration of India’s rich history in fashion. A celebration that we never witnessed in India before, stars paid homage to Indian fashion, embroidery, silhouettes and legacy in films.

Celebrities attending the gala also expressed their love for Indian-born fashion. In pictures, we spotted Zendaya and Gigi Hadid in couture sarees, while celebrities from India reimagined the old-school drape. Designers like Manish Malhotra, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla, Rahul Mishra and Anamika Khanna stole the maximum spots in celebrity closets. Re-styling the look, they fashioned their way into the gala. Fabrics like brocade, silk, motifs paisley, statement embroidery, and re-styled sarees, turned protagonist. Let’s check out some of our favourite couture moments from the event.

Reimagined Saree

Brocade and colourful silk headlined the red carpet. Celebrities like Kriti Sanon wore a custom Monisha Jaising outfit. The dull gold, brocade gown featured a thigh-high slit, and a crisp jacket and was styled using a twist of ethnic jewellery–gold chaandbaalis. Other stars like Priyanka Chopra in Amit Aggarwal, Saba Azad in a stylised saree, Shraddha Kapoor with a Paithani twist, and Tamannaah Bhatia in a gold saree, made sure to pay a lively tribute to the India-born silhouette.

Statement Embroidery

Designer Rahul Mishra was the favourite choice amongst celebrities. Strutting in his statement, nature-loved embroidery, stars like Karisma Kapoor, stylist Law Roach, and Aditi Rao Hydari chose lively embroidery designs in different formats. From couture gowns to lehengas, and sarees, age-old embroidery techniques like tonal Chikankari embroidery, and floral cutwork remained the highlight.

Vintage Romance

Some of our favourite statement designs on the red carpet were worn by Priyanka Chopra and Sonam Kapoor. Vintage, archival pieces from the ateliers of designers Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla and Amit Aggarwal, were the top choices for these stars. Celebrities paid tribute to vintage fashion with an aim to upcycle iconic designs. The two actresses were seen wearing a version of brocade saree and dreamy lehengas and opted for a twist to royal designs.

Saree For The World

International celebrities like Zendaya and Gigi Hadid made some impeccable sartorial choices in a saree. The two wore a version of the concept saree by designers Rahul Mishra and Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Zendaya’s pre-draped pleated saree featured Mishra’s prowess in couture, while Hadid wore a gold Chikankari saree by the designer duo, complimented by a stack of bangles.

Jewellery Galore

Besides vintage designs, luxurious fabrics, and high-octane silhouettes, unconventional jewellery made its way to the gala. From Shanaya Kapoor’s jewellery stack, and haath phool to fresh gajra tied to braids, celebrities walked the pink carpet in unconventional jewellery designs.

Couture Designs

Couture and monumental silhouette played the protagonist in most designer pieces. While many opted for a traditional saree or lehenga, some stars like Ananya Panday, Alia Bhatt, Bhumi Pednekar and Rashmika Mandanna picked concept gowns, long trails and intricate Indian embroideries to attend the gala. Magnificent drapes, padded bodices, and marvellous headpieces were some attention-seeking designs.
