This 22-Year Old Actress Wore A Mundu On The Red Carpet Of Venice Film Festival And We Are Fangirling!!

The Venice Film Festival is one of the most high-profile and reputed events in the world of cinema. Apart from being the oldest film festivals in the world, this annual showcase holds the distinction of supporting independent cinema. But with a just couple of Indian films showing at the festival and lack of big name celebs being in attendance (Cannes is where they go), the event has gone mostly unnoticed by Indian audiences. Fortunately for our readers, we have kept a close watch on the proceedings and just today spotted the most adorable red carpet moment in a while!

The Malayalam film Chola, from filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, premiered at the festival today. Present on the red carpet were the cast and makers of the film, some of them sporting the traditional Kerala mundu.

This fantastic moment at the red carpet was indeed the highlight of our day. Among the cast was present 22-year old actress Nimisha Bidhu Sajayan, who decided to wear a traditional Kerala drape at the festival. Her variation of the Mundum-Neriyathum was absolutely stunning and we love how she chose to represent her culture in this manner. Paired with chic danglers and a puffed sleeve blouse (how cute!), we can’t get over the sheer awesomeness of this appearance from Nimisha. Leave it to the desis to sport fabulous lungi styles at an international film festival. We are totally fangirling!

Nimisha chose another ethnic number for a photo-call. Can we get a “Hell Yes!” for that delicious lime yellow? Nimisha Sajayan stars alongside Joju George in Chola, which has been titled Shadow of Water in English. According to director Sanal, the film is “A look into people’s mindset, how they react differently in peculiar situations, at times against all our expectations. The film studies such situations and our judgments in those times. It follows tow teenagers who run away to the big city, but end up having to spend the night at a bare-bones hotel, where their nightmare begins”, he elaborated.

We are quite excited to see how the film fares at the festival. We certainly have our hopes up since this is not Sanal’s first appearance at an international film festival. His last previous flick S Durga became the first Indian film to win the Hivos Tiger award at the Rotterdam Film Festival in 2017. We wish these inspiring artists all the applause and buzz at the festival!
