Birthday Girl Deepika Padukone’s Sartorial Picks Are Fierce And Fab!

Deepika Padukone’s wardrobe has definitely evolved over time. While we observed the swift shift in her sartorial picks on the red carpets, it all started back in 2012, when Deepika essayed the role of Veronica in the film Cocktail. Portraying a roster of experimental looks, she became the reigning queen of the Indian fashion universe. From sporting golden highlights to carving trends for the yearly bulletin, Bollywood’s darling Shanti Priya from Om Shanti Om has seamlessly churned out some effortless, experimental styles. On her birthday, we’re documenting our favourite daring outfits from the actress’ closet, which are fashion experiments that turned out to be headline-making fashion moments indeed.

Roaring In Valentino

Talking about the most recent look sported by the Bajirao Mastani actress, the red Valentino ensemble tops our list. Replicating a vintage aesthetic, Deepika Padukone opted for the Italian luxury fashion label’s Cady couture dress, which featured an oversized mini fit, paired with matching sheer red tights and a red silk bandana to seal the statement look. Opting for a rather unconventional silhouette and pairing options, she donned the ensemble while promoting her recent release 83 alongside actor and husband Ranveer Singh.

Sunny Yellow It is

Taking the saree for a French spin, Deepika Padukone sported her favourite couturier–Sabyasachi’s designs for an event in 2019. Starring a ruffled saree, and a statement pussy-bow blouse, the sunny yellow hue is proof of her affinity towards bright colours. Completing the look with a pair of shoulder-grazing Sabyasachi earrings, a sleek low bun, she chose to style the pussy bow (a power dressing staple ever since the 1960s) to match the dramatic ruffles on the palla and billowing sleeves. A silhouette this rare and interesting turned out to be one of her best-put looks, in the Indian wear category.

Going Big With Neon

Marking her official shift from boring ballroom fits to sassy tulles, Deepika Padukone’s lookbook for Cannes 2019 remains noteworthy. Offering a blend of street style and couture, the Off-White tulle dress in the shade black spoke volumes. With animal print making a quick cameo in bright green, the subtle statement-making colour play was unique and fab. Accessorising with a shoulder bag in the same print, a pair of neon sunglasses and chunky black shoes, the actress gave the flounce a fun and fierce twist.

Beautiful In Bandana

Deepika Padukone’s closet witnessed a brief but significant obsession with head accessories that are often revisited for style inspiration by many. From sporting headscarves, printed bandanas and statement hair ties, the particular patch in her fashion timeline reflects the same. Going all out with print-on-print, the Om Shanti Om star, opted for a Dior Maxi dress for her appearance at Dior’s spring/summer 2020 show at Paris Fashion Week. Featuring a big bow on the pleated silhouette, the African printed fabric in the shade chocolate brown was layered with a brown overcoat. Accessorising the woody look with chunky gold necklaces, and a bandana of the same print, she added a pair of long mesh boots to her feet.

Flower Child

The Gehraiyaan actress has never shied away from unconventional pairings and her choice of the Dil Guldasta lehenga from the shelves of Sabyasachi is why we said so. Dressing up for one of her many wedding reception parties, Deepika Padukone shocked us with a much Frida Kahlo look, featuring intricate floral patchwork on Bordeaux silk and sheer dupatta. Stealing the spotlight, the ensemble also incorporated a flower crown on her head alongside a braid, an emerald choker and kohl eyes, all of which stitched together a great party look for her. Slaying the risqué colour play, Deepika Padukone’s cocktail floral look went on to become an inspiration for many brides.

Bold In Black

Well-suited in designer Rajesh Pratap Singh’s creation, who’s known for dressing up some stylish men from Bollywood like Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor, Deepika opted for the crisp black ensemble from the label’s shelves. Edgy and elegant, it was one of the first times, when an actress sported a bandhgala and looked this fab. And she definitely carved her niche in power dressing.

Featuring a black anarkali with a crisp flounce and churidar in the same shade, she layered the statement silhouette over an ivory kurta that sneaked through the flare and sleeves. Adding a pocket square, golden studs and black pumps to her tonal look, she opted for kohl laden eye makeup and hair dressed in a low bun.

Happy birthday, style queen!
