Exclusive: Three Designers Showcasing At Moscow Fashion Week 2025 Talk About Global Trends, New Collection, And More

As Moscow Fashion Week kicks off on August 28 to September 2 with all the glamour and high-voltage jazz, we decided to explore the designers who showcased their collections at the latest season of this grand international event. Three outstanding designers – Tatiana Kotova, Darya Kipriyanova, and Oxana Zinenko brought their bold and thought-provoking fashion collections to the runway. Interestingly, the fashion week also included a special showcase of Khadi and Indian handloom by the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).

From dreamlike ensembles to regal eyecatchers, these designers are redefining what it means to profuse philosophy with fashion. With each inspiration and inclusion of storytelling, their work goes beyond just trends. During an exclusive conversation with Hauterrfly, the three designers gave us a glimpse of their upcoming collections!

Q. What was the main inspiration behind your Moscow Fashion Week collection this season?

Tatiana Kotova- The inspiration for the collection lies in immersing oneself in one’s dreams. It merges historical styles with futuristic elements, highlighting both retro elements and technological innovations in design. The collection retains the experimental and free-spirited essence of BOHO style while delving deeper into the future.

Darya Kipriyanova- The Coronation collection by Darya Kipriyanova is a story of inner awakening and finding oneself. Inspired by a meditative experience in the foothills of Belukha, the collection is about the moment of awakening when doubt and the search for self are replaced by the light of realisation: you are already worthy by birthright. It’s not just clothes, it’s a reminder that every woman is a queen, and it’s her job to wake up, discover it within and shine.

Oxana Zinenko- The new collection “Amazons of the Avant-garde” is inspired by the work of Russian constructivists Lyubov Popova and Varvara Stepanova. Their bright patterns come to life in modern looks: geometric prints adorn trench coats with voluminous sleeves and stylish shirts. Stripes, which have become the main motif of Varvara Stepanova’s work, are reinterpreted in dresses and skirts with black edging. Avant-garde cut, geometric cutouts and stitching emphasise the uniqueness of the collection. Pure and rich colours – red, blue – seem to have come from the paintings of the artists.

Q. How would you describe your brand’s style in three words?

Tatiana Kotova- I wouldn’t say it’s a style, I’d say it’s the story of a mermaid in the city. Feminine, romantic silhouettes with a touch of futurism.

Darya Kipriyanova- Depth, transformation, sculpture. These three words reflect the essence of Darya Kipriyanova: design with unique construction solutions, transformation clothes that create mysterious looks, and depth that emphasises the inner strength and multi-layered nature of the modern woman. Sculpture refers to the art of cutting voluminous fabrics and an aesthetic that makes each piece a work of art in harmony with the heroine’s personality.

Oxana Zinenko- Minimalism with avant-garde details.

Q. What kind of person do you design for? Who do you imagine wearing your clothes?

Tatiana Kotova- The brand’s outfits are often chosen by singers, artists, presenters, stylists, models, bloggers and women in creative professions. Kotova dresses are created for special occasions and events.

Darya Kipriyanova- Our heroine is a free creator, confident in her worth. She is not afraid to be mysterious, her silhouettes speak of depth and strength, and her layered looks reflect her inner complexity.

Oxana Zinenko- I am a role model for the brand, creating for women who love versatile clothes that stand out from the rest.

Q. Which piece from your collection is your personal favourite and why?

Tatiana Kotova- The iconic outfits of the collection are my favourite plissé and curls. Black and white.

Darya Kipriyanova- The name combines the depth of the night (“Nocturna”) and the dynamics of a trail, reminiscent of a fluttering veil (“Velatura” – from “velum”, “sail” or “veil”). The dress, with its voluminous pleats and hood, creates an image of mysterious power, as if the heroine were shrouded in shadows that emphasise her boldness (open cut) and unmistakable.

Oxana Zinenko- The “Popova” trench coat with geometric print by Lyubov Popova. The vibrant print on this trendy cotton trench coat turned out to be very successful.

Q. How do you stay true to your design identity while also evolving each season?

Tatiana Kotova- My signature element is working with pleats and creating unusual curl shapes for the fabric. With each new collection, I use these elements but experiment with shape, colour and silhouette. Each new dress is always a search for new design solutions and innovative manufacturing techniques. Often, dresses are made without patterns, directly on a mannequin from a piece of fabric.

Darya Kipriyanova- We keep the DNA of the brand – architectural tailoring, transforming elements and layering – as the foundation on which we build new stories. Each season is not a rejection of the past, but a dialogue with it. We explore how ‘talking’ silhouettes and voluminous fabrics can reveal facets of femininity that have not yet been shown: by experimenting with textures, the dynamics of feathers or the play of proportions. For us, evolution is not a change of skin, but a deepening. Even when we add new elements, we ask: “Will this help a woman feel her power? Will the dress become her ally in a dialogue with the world?” This is how evolution is born – when the form changes, but the spirit remains unbroken.

Oxana Zinenko- The style is the basis (laconic cut, universal colour), and it is played out each time depending on the inspiration chosen – in my brand, the starting point is a particular artist and their work.

Q. Do you follow global trends or prefer to go against them when designing?

Tatiana Kotova- I follow world trends, I even anticipate them. But when I create a collection, I rely on my inspiration and the ideas that come to me.

Darya Kipriyanova- Darya Kipriyanova does not create trends – we weave philosophy. Our collections are born from a dialogue with the essence of a woman. We look at the world like an artist looks at the sea: not to copy the waves, but to capture their rhythm and turn it into an abstraction.

Oxana Zinenko- All items have trendy cuts, but I don’t strongly follow the trends.

Q. How important is fabric choice in your creative process? Do you have a go-to material?

Tatiana Kotova- The collections use textured materials, pleated clothes and crushed fabric, which allows you to give unusual shapes and volumes to the products.  Natural fabrics are predominantly used for the basic collections.

Darya Kipriyanova- For us, the choice of material is the basis of a dialogue between form and sensation. Every collection begins with a touch: the way the fabric lies against the body, moves, interacts with air and light. Even the most daring silhouette loses its power if the material does not carry the same philosophy as the cut – freedom, depth, timelessness. Comfort is not a compromise, but a requirement. Darya Kipriyanova’s heroine knows no limits: her clothes are “cocoon and wings at the same time”, where every fold works for her inner strength, not against it.

Oxana Zinenko- The choice of fabric is always important and plays a big role. I like dense fabrics that hold their shape.
