Indians At The Met Gala 2026

1. Karan Johar

Karan Johar trusted designer and close friend Manish Malhotra for his debut at the Met, styled by Eka Lakhani. Inspired by Raja Ravi Varma, the filmmaker wore his imagery on a hand-painted outfit with Zardozi borders, three-dimensional pillars, lotuses and swans, with a hand-painted jacket lining. For the filmmaker, it’s a story worth telling. The ensemble has the hardwood of artisans over 5,600 hours and 86 days, as he was clear about every brush stroke being real without any digital intervention.

2. Princess Gauravi Kumari

Princess Gauravi Kumari also made her debt at the Met Gala 2026 in her grandmother’s saree Maharani Gayatri Devi’s chiffon sari carefully transformed into a fluid gown by Prabal Gurung. It was physically woven into the garment without letting go of its original drape. Jaipur’s pink colour felt personal and nostalgic with white pearls, uncut diamonds, and rubies that echoed her grandmother’s original style.

3. Sawai Padmanabh Singh

For Pacho’s debut, a deep velvet coat took over 600 hours n the making, with each inch covered in sari and zardozi and finished in dabka and resham. It was worn over a sharp bandhgal which holds the spotlight of being unmistakably Rajasthani. And then he turns, with mirror sun glints at the back from the Sri Niwas at the City Palace in Jaipur, a quiet node to his lineage along with polki and jadau, associated with the famous Johri Bazaar.

4. Ananya Birla

Ananya Birla stole the show in a black couture look by Robert Wun with a structured jacket and a dramatic peplum flowing into a voluminous pleated skirt. The star of her enseble neck the mask created in stainless steel by Subodh Gupta, blurring the line between genius and art, hiding the identity, yet amplifying presence. She completed her look with minimal jewellery and a power statement at the Met Gala.

For her third time at the Met Gala 2026, Sudhar Reddy donned a Manish Malhotra creation that took over 3,400 hours and 90 artisans to bring to life. A sculpted velvet corset opened into a sweeping train layered with a sheer cape embroidered in Kalamkari-inspired ‘Tree of Life’ motifs using brass, copper, and silver. The real moment sat at her neckline, a 550-carat violet-blue tanzanite called the ‘Queen of Merelani’ surrounded by rose-cut diamonds, a 23-carat yellow diamond, a 30-carat polki, and flashes of Colombian emerald joining in.

6. Mona Patel

Mona Patel drew inspiration from Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, for the night. She stepped out in a gold-and-white Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda look that traced the human form with an anatomical precision. The cape carried the iconic figure with her gold-and-diamond jewellery inspired by her health-tech mindset and research date the Biblioteca Ambrosiana.

7. Camila Mendes

It’s worth noting that American actor Camila Mendes stepped into the Met wearing a Manish Malhotra couture inspired by Amrita Sher-Gil. The ensemble translated the artist’s quiet and introspected woman into something fluid and alive.. Built on a corseted base, Mendes’ outfit gathered into a sculptural knot at the hip before falling into a dramatic trail with a hand-ruched chiffon resembling dry brushstrokes in earthy reds and ochres. It was finished with tourmalines and uncut diamonds in 18k gold.
