The first Monday in May celebrated the most prestigious event in the history of fashion, at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art. The annual gala saw a line up of celebrities from Hollywood and Bollywood, walking the red carpet in suitable, thematic ensembles. A big nod to the mood of Met Gala 2023, every guest paid tribute to iconic late designer Karl Lagerfeld and his contribution to the world of fashion.
Dressed in sync with each other and the colours of Karl, celebrities from Kim Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner to Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra took a dip in the shades of white and black. Besides monochrome, plenty of meow moments were delivered by stars like Doja Cat, Jared Leto and more, who masterfully came dressed like Lagerfeld’s beloved pet cat–Choupette. Many trends and style moments made it to the red carpet, with a plethora of innovative beauty trends and hairdos inspiring fans. So, here’s our takeaway from the biggest fashion event of 2023.
Everyone Wore A Bow
Both dark and soft feminine energy weaved some of the best-dressed looks from the evening. Bows, in particular, were present in hair, necklines and trails, facilitating the charm of red-carpet fashion. Then be it Alia Bhatt’s pearl-laden bow clip, Priyanka Chopra’s chaotic bow-laden bun and sleeves or Florence Pugh’s major bowtie on the bodice, the design element was a major member in almost every celebrity ensemble.
It Bags
Displaying the legacy led by Karl Lagerfeld, and his contribution to some of the world’s most luxurious fashion houses, celebrities went deep down their old wardrobes, digging their treasured It Bags, crafted by the late designer. Like Isha Ambani’s popular Chanel doll bag, stars made an effort to seal their ensembles with a major itty bitty bag. As a significant nod to Karl Lagerfeld’s special bond with his beloved pet Choupette, Chloe Fineman also sported a mini cat purse, soaked in glitter. Like the return of summer, the homecoming of tiny, luxury purses is on its way.
Pearlcore Is Here To Stay
Ever since the rising craze of pearl core aesthetic in the year 2022, celebrities only know the recipe to dish out a piece in one. From jewellery to corsets, stars like Alia Bhatt, Lizzo, Kim Kardashian and more chose to channel a pearl-laden look for the special evening. This indicated the return of the softcore, regal aesthetic.
Colours Of Karl
Designer houses in collaboration with celebrity guests, curated monochromatic ensembles as a big nod to Karl’s signature look. Often seen wearing a white and black tux, celebrities visibly channelled the Karl Lagerfeld colour palette through a plethora of gowns, backless blazers, formal suitings, and skin-fit cocktail dresses and saree-inspired designs.
Meow Moment
Like the late designer, his popular pet Choupette turned out to be the showstopper at the Met Gala this year, with celebrities like Doja Cat and Jared Leto seeking inspiration from it. Providing a major meow moment, these celebrities wore their version of Choupette, to the biggest night in fashion and aced it.
