All the buzz around Met Gala is driving our attention to one thing, which is the spectacular carpet. Besides the trail of celebrities, the carpet this year attracted major attention from the world. Dipped in shades of blue and red over an off-white base, the carpet holds a special meaning.

Interestingly, the carpet has been made in India. Yes, that’s right. Woven by a Kerala-based brand titled–Neytt by Extraweave, the carpet was made in India over a period of 60 days. The carpet was further hand painted in the US. And it is not just the first time but the second collaboration between the Indian brand and the prestigious Met Gala. Event planner Raul Avila was inspired by the serpentine lines, also known as the lines of beauty for the design. An ode to the theme for the year which said–Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty, the S-shaped lines depicted the popular theory.

The Line Of Beauty aesthetic or theory features S-shaped curved lines, introduced by the popular 18th contrary English painter–William Hogarth. As per the theory, the liveliness and activity of the line attracting more attention, contrary to straight and parallel lines that are often associated with the idea of death, and stillness.

Seeking inspiration from the same, Raul’s work for this year’s Met Gala was handcrafted in India and later hand painted in the US. The unique three-toned design instantly caught the internet’s attention. Many also made fun of the colour scheme and compared it to the colour of toothpaste.
