In A Not So Strange Khabar, Winona Ryder Returns As The Muse For Marc Jacobs’ New Bag Campaign

I have currently been loving all the recent fashion and jewellery brand campaigns, which at the times do a better job at casting than some films. I mean just take a look at the beautiful campaign unveiled by Bulgari. Featuring Zendaya and Anne Hathaway, Bulgari sure did its research well and had the internet gasping for breath. And now dancing to a similar tune is American fashion giant–Marc Jacobs.  

For its recent and latest campaign, the New York-based label has roped in actress Winona Ryder. Yep! I mean with the ongoing craze for Stranger Things, the casting seemed well planned and hit the right chord. Dressed up in a grunge-inspired avatar, Winona turned muse for Mac Jacobs’ ‘J Marc’ edition. For a not so grunge looking collection, especially the colour pop bags, the new edition styled by Emma Wyman features Winona in an archived black MJ, asymmetrical gown, massive clown Kiki boots and a mix of tulle skirts, lace tops and sheer blouses.

After a 20-year long break from her collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Winona looks nothing short of a grunge goddess in the label’s latest campaign. Photographed by Harley Weir, Winona is seen modelling MJ’s punchy and pop hued ‘J Marc’ shoulder bags, which come with a significant ‘J’ lock. Throughout the snapshots and videos posted on the fashion house’s Instagram handle, Winona is seen showcasing the many features of the bag, which plays the role of a shoulder, crossbody bag and even a clutch. And exactly there, you have me obsessed MJ. 

As per the styling by Emma, our very own Melissa Warburton from Friends digs deep into the mood of the campaign which here is grunge and gothic. Taking on the label’s signature Kiki boots, Winona slips into an array of silk-lace dresses, fur laden collars, sheer tulle skirts and long leather jackets. For hair Winona continues with an edgy long pixie, lips painted with the darkest shade of chocolate brown and at times nude. The overall style behaviour here seems like a blend between soph, dreamy and pretty grunge.

While the first pictures of Winona with the bag were enough to impress the internet, it also took us back in time, when The Cow actress was found guilty in 2002 for shoplifting merchandise of over $5,000 in Beverly Hills’ Saks Fifth Avenue, which also included a Marc Jacobs floral cashmere top worth $760. But this ongoing trial did not keep Marc away from collaborating over campaigns with his close friend Winona. They further continued to build on their fashion friendship, when Winona appeared as the face of the label in 2003, followed by the brand’s 2016 beauty launch and now here. I mean, it sure has been a bumpy ride but the collaborations have always been a success.
