Louis Vuitton Has A Weird Response To Lisa’s Controversial Met Gala Underwear And We’re Not Convinced!

On Monday, K-pop superstar Lisa walked the Met Gala blue carpet wearing a Louis Vuitton lace bodysuit under an embroidered jacket. The patterns in the lace peeking under the jacket is what drew intense criticism. It appears to be a collage of faces of different women, including one that looks like African-American activist, Rosa Parks, and here is what Louis Vuitton had to say,

People were confused about how this lace print was meant to honor historical Black figures. And how it ended up being visible just beneath the jacket, giving the look of an underwear.

Though Lisa herself is yet to speak on the matter, Louis Vuitton has released a statement to several publications like The Cut and Hyperallergic. A representative explained that the print was created by American artist Henry Taylor and depicts portraits of figures who have been a part of the artist’s life. They also clarified that one of the women featured on the bodysuit is not Rosa Parks but actually Henry’s neighbour!

The pattern was originally commissioned by Louis Vuitton’s creative director Pharrell Williams for his debut spring 2024 collection for the brand, the rep said. The designer is known for featuring individuals, both famous and non-famous, in intimate and community settings in his artworks. Henry Taylor has also previously worked with Pharrell in 2023.

Styled by Pharrell himself Taylor  also attended last night’s Met Gala. He dawned a white button-down featuring it’s own set of embroidered portraits.

Aside from being perceived as disrespectful, there is another reason why the outfit was criticised heavily. Recently old videos of three Blackpink members, including Lisa, were leaked where they were caught singing the N-word. The members have yet to address the situation and put out an apology for it. Hence, this Met debacle only added more fuel to the fire.
