Producer and filmmaker Karan Johar is celebrating the 25 years of his debut film–Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Johar’s special love for the film and bond with leading actors–Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Kajol, makes this project even more special for his fans. The iconic film about love and friendship churned out many trends in terms of fashion and also made an impressive impact on our hearts with its film dialogues. Besides the idea of the plot, what we loved about this Karan Johar directorial was his collaboration with ace costume designer Manish Malhotra, who took charge of the film’s fashion.
From Kajol AKA Anjali’s sporty chic style to Rani AKA Tina’s sassy mini skirts and tops, every character had a unique wardrobe. And penning down his experience of working on the film, Malhotra shared a special post on his Instagram, celebrating its 25 years. Through a set of pictures featuring the film’s popular posters, Manish wrote down a long caption, narrating some unknown details from the film. Through his note, Manish mentioned how Karan Johar was keen on creating a sporty look for the film, which majorly reflected through the styles of Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol’s characters.
Further details unveiled how most of the film’s costumes were shopped from London. Manish mentioned– “during our next trip to London, we saw a Persian carpet on the display of a window on Bond Street and that gave me the inspiration for Kajol’s engagement lehanga.” This gave birth to the unique wedding saree concept, with a veil which churned out trends. About Rani’s character Tina, Manish mentioned bringing a conscious blend between her love for Western culture, with India at its core.
