World Fashion Day: Here’s How You Can Slay Indian Prints Like Celebs Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon And More

We celebrate World Fashion day on every August 21. The day commemorates the art and spirit of fashion worldwide. Who doesn’t love fashion? Be it heading for a business meeting, stepping out in the city during the weekends, or simply lying on our beds, we all consciously or unconsciously keep a check on our style. And when it comes to Indian fashion, there’s so much that the country’s treasure has to offer. From traditional embroideries to colours and prints, Indian fashion celebrates the essence of the country’s heritage. So, here are some of our favourite Indian prints which you can style on this special day, like these stunning Indian actresses.

Bandhani

One of the most common prints in Indian wardrobes, Bandhani or Bandhej is a popular kind of tie-dye style. The revival of Bandhani in India was boosted by Indian celebrities and designers, who renovated the image of this traditional print for modern-day markets. Like stars Alia Bhatt, Janhvi Kapoor and more, you can style Bandhani in a variety of formats like sarees, coord sets, dhoti pants and more.

Ikat

This popular dying technique was loaned from Indonesia. Coming from the pockets of Gujarat, and Orissa, Ikat features patterns of block print design over yarn, prior to dying. Many celebrities like Dia Mirza, and Athiya Shetty gave a peppy, new spin on Ikat through breezy dresses, while Vidya Balan, seemed to love the old-school saree design.

Kalamkari

This technique of hand and block printing cotton textiles is popular in most parts of India. Following the idea of storytelling on fabric, Kalamkari produces a beautiful ink print design over a canvas of coffee-coloured fabric. Many celebrities like Kajol, Kriti Sanon, and Pooja Hegde have worn a version of the beautiful Kalamkari through shawls, sarees and more.

Ajrak

Another form of block printing found mostly in Sindh is known to be the boldest print work amongst the rest. With detailed crimson red patches and patterns, Ajrak is popularly found in a variety of kurta and cotton saree designs. Many celebrities like Shilpa Shetty and Sonam Kapoor, have been a hoarder of Ajrak printed designs, that come in the format of Anarkali dresses, angrakha kurtas and sarees.
