From Lavender Lehengas To Double Dupatta, Here Are Some Celebrity Bridal Trends That Stole The Spotlight In 2021

Amidst the adventurous ride that the year 2021 had reserved for us, the wedding business surprisingly outshone itself. Restricted by private affairs with a limited list of invitees adding to the merriment of weddings, everything from the mandap, to the brides much-talked-about lehenga, was well painted with the trend stroke. And with celebrity brides being our guides, as we gauge the ever-changing shaadi staples, the popular Bollywood dulhans from Katrina Kaif, Rhea Kapoor to Dia Mirza, carved some fresh trends. Have a look at the bridal trends we spotted throughout the year 2021.

Skip The Red

While many popular brides from Katrina Kaif to Yami Gautam opted for the classic red, what came in like a breath of fresh air was the inclusivity of lighter hues. Donning all-white and lavender looks at their wedding, brides Rhea Kapoor and Anushka Ranjan said no to being the typical red bride. Opting for designers Anamika Khanna and Manish Malhotra, these brides showed the many colours you can experiment with and ditch the red.

Lehenga? Nah!

While lehengas have been the reigning queens of bridal wear, sarees changed the game for many this year. Opting for the timeless drape for their special day, brides like Dia Mirza, Yami Gautam, Patralekhaa Paul and Rhea Kapoor said yes to red and less OTT saree designs with an idea to re-style them (which is always the question while shopping for bridal wear). Wrapping designer drapes by labels like Raw Mango and Sabyasachi, these brides were a vision in red.

Double Dupatta

Opting for a second layer of dupatta, bridal costumes have shifted to this appealing trend. Flagged off by the king of bridal wear, designer Sabyasachi, many brides have been loving the idea of a dual dupatta. A style where in the heavy dupatta gets sealed with the lehenga, while the added layer of a sheer long veil compliments the overall look. Chosen by Katrina Kaif for her big day, the actress punctuated her handwoven matka silk lehenga with a custom-made trimmed dupatta gracing her head. A style that bride Rhea Kapoor too opted, by adding the unconventional pearl veil, to her beautiful ivory saree.

Less Is More

With the change in years and continually upgrading fashion trends, one thing that has found a safe space in the bridal wear category is the ‘less is more,’ mantra. Followed by many celebrity brides, heavy tulles and decked up jewellery were a miss for many. Be it Anushka Ranjan who resorted to delicate diamonds, or Natasha Dalal who avoided a million layers of makeup, these brides chose comfort over the traditional drill of wearing shoulder-grazing jewels.

Customisation

Sprinkling a sense of exclusivity, brides today are adding a personalised element to their D-Day outfits. Something that talks about their culture, heritage or family traditions, brides chose to customise their dream wedding dress. Practised by Bollywood brides like Patralekhaa Paul who added a Bengali verse to her veil, or Katrina Kaif who chose a custom-made fringe around her veil called ‘kiran’ as an ode to her groom and a set of kaleeras inscribed with handwritten messages.
