Kareena Kapoor’s Manager Poonam Damania Has Quit. Okay, But What Does A Celebrity Manager Do?

There’s no stopping Kareena Kapoor Khan. From brand endorsements to magazine covers to being the highest paid celebrity on a television show, it feels like she’s doing everything and she’s doing it in style. Now, there are many stars this country has but not everyone is grabbing headlines every day and most of the press Kareena receives is pretty positive. We all know that she couldn’t possibly be doing this alone. And most actresses have an entourage that helps them out. For Kareena Kapoor, for an entire decade, the details were handled by Poonam Damania, her manager. And their relationship went beyond just work. They are now friends.

Poonam was there for most of Kareena’s milestone moments by now. She was there when Kareena got married to Saif in 2012, when Taimur was born in 2016. And now, Poonam has quit.

According to Mid-Day, Poonam left the company Matrix in July. Apparently, this was a move that expected, the many differences between her and the agency being the reason. “Her second in command, Naina Sawhney too has left the organisation. Poonam’s next move is being keenly watched by the industry insiders with buzz suggesting that she may launch her own talent management firm. The idea of joining the rival celebrity management agency, KWAN, as a senior partner cannot be ruled out either. While this puts a question mark on Kareena’s professional equation with Poonam, their personal rapport remains unaffected,” revealed the source.

That’s all okay but what exactly does a celebrity manager do? Well, for starters, they literally handle every single detail of the celebrity’s life. From their travel plans to their movie promotions, the manager is responsible to make it happen. They also negotiate money on behalf of the celebrity, a field in which Poonam clearly excels. In Kareena’s case, Poonam’s Instagram account was also the place for all the updates about Kareena, given that the Jab We Met actress doesn’t have her own account.

A large part of a celebrity manager’s job involves making deals that benefit both their client and the brand in question. It could also mean handling security arrangements, approving looks and enhancing brand image. With each of these, if Kareena’s transformation to a true diva is anything to go by, Poonam did fantastically.

News is in that Kareena, who is currently in London, already has a new manager.
