Kangana Ranaut’s Flavourful Saree Collection Is Her Secret Ingredient To Power Dressing

Kangana Ranaut is not just famous for her films and tweets, but also for her excellent sense of style. Promoting India’s rooted culture and history in fashion, Ranaut enjoys styling a saree whenever she’s making a public appearance. Most times, the actress is seen choosing the silhouette for visits to the airport and even while chilling with her family at her Manali home.

What we love about Ranaut’s collection of drapes is the sense of power it exudes. As iconic as herself, her collection of sarees is often styled with elite pearl strings, vintage sunglasses and tapestry bags, painting an old-school aesthetic for us. Like all her fiery words, her crisp pallus are a reflection of her personality, and do justice to her strong persona. Her fashion journey is all about learning and unlearning the idea of glitz and glam in exchange for classics. The actress’ daring choices have seen a tall stack of sarees, a variety of heirloom silk drapes, and even spring-appropriate cotton drapes. She further styles them using a white gajra, temple jewellery and bindi. So, as the actress celebrates her 36th birthday today, we look back at some of our favourite saree moments, delivered by her.

Pearl Grace

Just recently, the actress left Mumbai to bring in her 36th birthday. Unlike most stars, Ranaut chose to wear a sorbet-hued saree, with hand-painted floral motifs, a semi-sheer pallu and a sleeveless blouse. She further styled the look using multiple pearl strings, and boxy sunglasses.

Traditional Kasavu

As an ode to South India, Ranaut styled a tidy, white kasavu saree featuring a gold border and dainty golden motifs. The graceful drape was styled using a pair of temple earrings, a matching coin neckpiece and hair decorated with a white gajra. To seal it all, Ranaut picked a red lip colour and dished out a powerful look.

Vintage Romance

For the promotion of her popular film–Thalaivii, the actress introduced her closet to a range of traditional Indian sarees, lustrous kanjeevarams and bright colours. Essaying the role of Indian actress-politician J. Jayalalithaa, Kangana packed her promotion closet with saree designs that the politician would prefer styling. Most of the looks served the style nuance, and cultural significance of South India, and also reminded us of the golden past of Indian fashion.

The Modern Saree

In between her regular traditional drapes, the actress enjoys styling a couple of dazzling sarees, that bridge the gap between contemporary and classic Indian fashion. One of our favourites is this ice-blue, satin saree on her, which she teamed with a twinkling, sequin blouse. What added a hint of sartorial drama to the entire look was her stylised hair bun and a pair of pearl white earrings.

Royal Treatment

Besides using the silhouette as a strong medium of power dressing, Ranaut makes sure to blend a certain amount of class in each of her saree looks. For this, she often trusts India’s biggest designers like Sabyasachi, to go bold with colours, patterns and fabrics. Some of our favourite, special looks from her kitty include the lace, sheer saree by label–Torani. What adds up to the look, is her choice of heirloom-worthy jewellery, that exhibits her fine taste in diamonds and Indian gemstones.
