The saree saga is now modern!

Leafy Cords, Picnic Prints, And Slogan Design: Behold The Reincarnation Of The Saree By These Indian Labels

In the age where traditions meet trends, designers are going down the memory lane to reinvent India’s favourite saree silhouette. Sarees as they take the spotlight today, have thigh-high slits, jackets, and shredded pallus. Reintroducing sarees in this modern-day shape, are some of India’s leading designers. From Akaaro, Ekaya to Rimzim Dadu, designers are experimenting with print designs, unconventional cuts, and stylised blouses. So, for everyone looking to drape a modern-day, flavourful saree, check out these labels that are taking the saree saga to another level.

New-Age Silk

Giving an interesting twist to the classic silk saree is label Akaaro’s late collection. The Delhi-based fashion label blends the charm of royal blue, with an edgy blazer. Teaming the two silhouette types, Akaaro manages to place a metallic saree, against the backdrop of a crop top. This special ode to India’s legacy in handwoven silk is both regal, and refreshing.

Experimenting with the season’s favourite hot pink, designer Masaba Gupta’s label tackles trends like no other. In her latest collection–RaniCore, Masaba introduced us to this revised, desi edition of barbiecore, in a unique, slogan saree, coupled with an arm-warmer blouse.

Shredded Couture

For designer Anamika Khanna, Indian ethnic wear is ready to be experimented with. In her latest range of festive wear, Khanna brought some interesting drape designs, a shredded blouse, and anti-fit shrugs. Sharing this unique relationship with sarees is the designer’s unique approach towards layering, and laser-cut embellishments, that give the classic saree a new face, and form.

Print Galore

Reinventing its legacy in saree design is designer Satya Paul’s latest collection. With prints that speak in the signature statement design language, the brand’s new edition brings the saree closer to punk-themed patterns, techni-colour fabrics, dramatic gloves, and balaclava. We stan this new behaviour that the Satya Paul saree is presenting.

Power Play

Taking sarees to both boardrooms, and a royal summer getaway is designer Kshitij Jalori’s love for sarees. The designer’s prowess in print design teams a neatly-draped saree with crisp half-jackets. Besides exchanging a lazy, loose pallu, with tidy pleats, Jalori’s vision towards florals is an ode to old-school European design romance.
