ICW’24: Tarun Tahiliani Creates History By Repeating Fashion Show, Pays 50% Extra To Models For Walking Again!
Tarun Tahiliani apologized to his guests who came to attend his show at the India Couture Week!

At the FDCI India Couture Week 2024, fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani made an unexpected mark in fashion history by repeating his show, a response to a seating debacle that left many prominent attendees stranded outside. The seventh day, typically a celebration of cutting-edge fashion, transformed into an evening of both style and surprising twists, a BTS video from the show was posted online by a model who revealed the details of the same.
Tarun Tahiliani’s Otherworldly collection, a stunning fusion of traditional Indian craftsmanship with modern design elements, was set to be the highlight of the evening. However, the event took an unexpected turn when approximately 300 guests, including notable figures from the fashion and entertainment sectors, were unable to gain entry due to insufficient seating at The Ashok venue in Delhi. Faced with the dilemma, Tahiliani opted for an unprecedented solution: repeating his fashion show. This decision marked a first in fashion history, setting a new precedent. Model Ujjwal Dhir, who walked the runway twice that evening, noted that the models were compensated with an additional 50% of their usual fee for the second performance, ensuring their efforts were duly rewarded.

A video circulating online captured Tahiliani addressing the inconvenienced crowd, where he extended a heartfelt apology and assured them that everyone would have an excellent view of the show the second time around. Despite the logistical hiccup, Tahiliani’s Otherworldly collection shone brightly. The collection, inspired by the concept of a cocoon, aimed to blend comfort with confidence. It featured traditional embroideries like Kashidakar, Mukaish, and Chikankari, all reimagined with a contemporary touch. The designs incorporated monochromatic Pichwai, intricate carpets, and floral motifs, resulting in garments that were both luxurious and innovative.
While Tahiliani’s designs captivated the audience, the seating fiasco highlighted significant issues in managing high-profile fashion events. For the unversed, this is not the first time such seating issues have happened at fashion shows. In fact this has been a long-standing problem at such events, where the invites are sent out in magnanimous numbers, while seating capacity in comparison remains limited.
