Huma Qureshi At Cannes 2019: Are We Still Not Comfortable Dressing Curvy Women?

Huma Qureshi At Cannes 2019: Are We Still Not Comfortable Dressing Curvy Women?

This time last year, powerhouse performer Huma Qureshi was making waves with her Cannes debut. The actress was featured on almost every ‘Best Dressed’ list, courtesy the fabulous red carpet looks put together by a styling team led by Mohit Rai.

The actress, who attends the prestigious Cannes Film Festival representing vodka brand Grey Goose, opted for unconventional silhouettes in 2018, like a Falguni Shane Peacock pant suit with a cape and a glitzy embellished gold Manish Malhotra gown – outfits that worked perfectly for her curvy frame, we think.

This year was a whole different story. Her itinerary for the event mirrored last year’s, only the looks she sported were a lot less impressive.

The Boxy Silhouettes

The many jackets that Huma was put in during her Cannes appearances did her no favours. There is an art to dressing up an envious hourglass figure like Huma’s, which the actress herself has a pretty good rein on. We could have frankly done without the ill-fitted wool blazer with a tulle skirt on Huma, a look which was intended to turn out like this, FYI:

Why weren’t Huma’s stylists willing to embrace and translate her curves to red-carpet ready style?

Even the Balmain wouldn’t make us settle for an unflattering jacket dress on Huma!

‘Playing ‘Safe’ With Trends

Feathered trims? Check. Sheer panels? Check! It is one thing to adapt hot trends of the season to put together a look, but totally rely on them without originality? Huma’s couture gown could have easily been replaced by a more sultry number, much like the Manhsih Malhotra creation she donned last year. We know she could pull it off!

The Boring Colours

At a time where most Bollywood and international celebrities are playing with a range of colours, we think putting Huma is solid black, grey and white hues is lazy styling. How about some trendy neon shades? Or the desi trends of blush pastel and powder blues?

The colours were boring and failed to match her genuinely colourful personality. P.S. We do dig the dramatic sleeves on this gown and the androgynous cropped hair too!

One saving grace from Huma Qureshi’s Cannes outfits was her final red carpet look. The Gaurav Gupta silver mist organza multi-layered ruffled gown looked ethereal on her. The gown customised for Huma, had a ruffled trail attached, extending from her shoulder. This is exactly the kind of prep and creativity we hoped for from her other outfits!

2018 was definitely Huma’s better year and before we close her chapter, here is trip down memory lane from of her winning Cannes moments!
