Simi’s Steals: The Versatile Gingham Midi Skirt

Simi’s Steals: The Versatile Gingham Midi Skirt

One universal fashion problem for most girls is, “What do I wear today?” This question has the power to reduce us to a hysterical mess. Fashionista or not, nobody wants sartorial answers that cost a fortune. And let’s just be honest, you’re THE style star if you know how to dress to the nines on a budget. So I’ve taken up this Herculean task: Every Saturday, I’ll round up a budget-friendly ensemble for you, all BELOW Rs 10,000. Yes! It’s going to be an entire outfit — from head-to-toe — without breaking the bank. Quite a challenge, right? Scroll down to shop this budget ensemble, and don’t forget to come back every Saturday to discover an outfit that’s yet another steal!

There’s always one ensemble from childhood that we tend to remember precisely; everything from cut to silhouette and even pattern. Mine happens to be a playful blue and white gingham dress with an intricate peter pan collar that my mother got tailored for me. It’s hands down one of my favourites and despite all my tom-boyish endeavours, I’d turn excessively girly whenever I donned this attire. Come to look at it, maybe that’s where my love for the checked print began. Touted as a classic print, I think gingham can allow you to shift moods from a girl-next-door to a chic dame as and when you please.

And so, keeping in mind how versatile this print is, I decided to work a Zara gingham bow midi skirt for my ‘Style Steals’ column this week. I’ve teamed it up with a white Topshop racerback crop vest and added a classic denim shirt from Closet Diaries for a layered look. I’ve also worked a pair of white sneakers to the ensemble because sneakers are everything this season. To complete the look, I’ve accessorised with a neckpiece and ring from Blur. Since the colour story is pretty neutral so far, I’ve added a Chloé Drew-esque bag from Candidly Couture in rich burgundy. Such a chic look, ain’t it?

Another way to style this checked bow skirt would be by teaming it up with a geometric print Bardot top in blue and white (work print on print like a pro) and topping it off with nude pumps and a colourful envelope clutch.
