Now, You Can DIY Gucci’s Dionysus Bag!

Gucci DIY_Hauterfly

You’ve been living under a rock if you haven’t noticed the sea change in Italian luxe label Gucci’s design direction — geeky, chic, and oh-so-cool. The brand’s ready-to-wear line is utterly covetable, no doubt, but it’s the accessories that have turned us into little green monsters of envy every time we spot the Dionysus bag on the latest celebrity du jour. Boxy-shaped, and with a slim build complete with a double tiger head horseshoe closure (a reference to the Greek god Dionysus, who — legend has it — transformed into a tiger to carry a nymph across the river), the Dionysus has been reinvented multiple times since its debut.

The stunning handbag has been spotted on everyone from Beyoncé to Sonam Kapoor, but what makes it all the more drool-worthy right now is the brand’s introduction of a bespoke service that allows you to customise your Dionysus into a fabulous, personalised creation. Inspired by creative director Alessandro Michele’s fascination with punk culture and his passion for self-expression, the Dionysus DIY service gives customers the choice of embroidery, trims, hardware and monograms on both the large and small iterations of the bag.

The buffet of embroidered patches includes butterflies, bees, dragonflies, snakes, and peonies, as well as Swarovski-encrusted, monogrammed initials to really let people know you mean business. This DIY service is the first step in a customisation service that will soon extend to Gucci’s Ace sneakers and Princetown shoes.

Now, if only we could afford the bag’s Rs 1.5 lakh price tag (and that’s just the starting price). Le Sigh!
