Digital Stars Dominated Day 1 At FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week 2022. Are Influencers The New-Age Celebrity Showstoppers?

Fashion indeed has found its new stars in the internet era’s content creators. A slice of digital dominance that we witnessed yesterday at day 1 of FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week 2022, offered a hope for reinvented recognition. Swiftly switching from celebrity show stoppers to the new age celebs of the internet, designers Varun Bahl and Shantnu And Nikhil opened their runway for influencers, creators like Masoom Minawala, Usaamah Siddique, Juhi Godambe, Anukul Dhara AKA Coco Ballucci and more. A happy welcome as witnessed in the energy of the invitees, who instantly turned into cheerleaders for each of these digital disrupters. From befriending our phone screens to now dancing as headliners of India’s most celebrated labels, a line by Masoom Minawala during the press conference, for all the amazing aspiring female creators ‘I want to see you girls next here’ instantly had us all energised and a bit emo too (if I may say so).

Similar energy reflected on the runway showcase for designers Shantnu And Nikhil’s Nomad collection, where digital sitaare paraded alongside models and spilt a version of their personal style in the garments they wore. Energetic and inspiring, the digital stars taking over the runway, officially declared that the new age of stars have arrived and we can’t wait to see more of it. Known for their statement style lessons and distinct content, FDCI X Lakmé Fashion Week became a bridge between content creators and fashion runways, which for many years were booked only for special appearances by film stars.

While, this indeed felt like a breath of fresh air, and an exciting change to look at, we keep our fingers crossed for this transition to take place with models too.
