Exclusive: Celebrity Stylist Tanya Ghavri Spills The Tea On Styling Kiara Advani, Sara Ali Khan, And Dhoom Dhaam Trunk Show!

Q. Which spending bracket does the trunk show target? Are there any brands that cater to consumers on a tight budget?

A. The trunk show is very affordable where we have festive wear clothes that start from like 7000 to 8000 that go up to 60,000 INR. And then if anyone wants a bit more exclusivity or a slightly more unique or bigger name in terms of a designer, we have that as well. So it’s kind of in between, that is tentatively what the range is.

Q. What role did traditional or cultural elements play in the design and execution of the exhibition?

A. For the exhibition I wanted to keep it very India-centric. It’s kind of synonymous with a wedding and celebration festivity. So if you come to the exhibition all the feelings and the elements are very Indian and it’s all made in India and we are always promoting the brand the same way. It’s ingrained in the name as well and that’s why it’s always been our forte.

Q. How do you curate your designer roster?

A. The curation of my designer roster has always been evolving. Our main idea is to make sure that every time everybody come anybody comes to the show, it’s that they’re introduced to a new brand. And they always find a new brand that they have not known earlier that’s affordable or doing something very unique. So this is how my curation happens and the curation changes every year because I am always on the lookout for new designers.

Q.  What market gap did you spot being a stylist that inspired you to curate this trunk show? Where did the idea come from?

I would have to credit my partner Ashi Dua as she was the one who gave me the idea of taking my talent and curating a show which is there to bring the designers together. She said that she would execute it for me that way I can take that talent into the market as well, where people would benefit from it. So that’s how it became the first one-of-its-kind show, which was stylist-curated. And then when people come to the show they also trust you because you bring a certain aesthetic and expertise to the show. So, yes I feel like the gap was that the stylists coming together and putting on a show like this.

Q. You’ve worked with a lot of celebrities in your career. If you had to choose, whose closet would be your favourite?

A. I have worked with a lot of celebrities and different people’s closets have amazed me. I think I always envy them. There’s always going to be somebody whose style you love so much. So definitely Sonam Kapoor’s closet is unbelievable because she has such special, unique pieces, and someone new that I feel has an amazing style. I’ve not seen her closet but it must be amazing.

Q. You style many celebrities like Kiara Advani, Sara Ali Khan, and Mira Rajput, how do you maintain their individuality while picking outfits and how do you observe it?

A. Yes, I have styles for many celebrities and so many beautiful girls. I think spending time with them, chatting, understanding their style, and truly collaborating with each one of them according to their style. For example, I know that Kiara Advani is someone who is beautiful and young and she has a unique style of her own where she likes to do edgy things but in a very feminine way,  so it will always be feminine and somebody who is very classic and very chic in her style whether it pants or dresses she always keeps elite elegance in her wardrobe.

While Sara Ali Khan is someone who Indian wear, and is, of course, now experimenting a lot with Western silhouettes also. We actually have lots of chats about what she likes or doesn’t like, so I think communicating, sharing ideas and truly collaborating is the only way to go and that is the only way that you will make sure that each one of them is style differently but it’s still very unique to their style.

Q. What is one wedding trend that you want to try out this season?

A. The one wedding trend that I want to try out this season is the festive outfits in coord-set so it’s kind of in between like a cool pretty look but also can pass off like an interesting day wedding look, so I love the idea of coordinating sets because they are so comfortable as well.
