Elizabeth Debicki’s Dior Gown For ‘The Crown’ Season 5 Premiere Was An Ode To Princess Diana’s Style

Film premiere nights are always special for celebrities. Walking down the red carpet, stars often pick up a piece that is not just special but pays tribute to their character in the film. A formula that many stars have been reusing to promote their films, is the idea of weaving meaning into their sartorial choices. Fashion again plays the protagonist, for the leading stars of these films, and their characters. And an appropriate example of the same was actress Elizabeth Debicki, when she arrived for the London premiere of The Crown.

Dipped in black Dior, Debicki’s special look for the red carpet was a classic black gown. Channelling Princess Diana, who she portrays in the Netflix series, Elizabeth’s flared-silhouette was a part of the label’s Spring Summer 2022 couture collection. Tailored with sleek, intricate pleats, and a dream-like flounce, the gown featured a strapless, ruched bust, embellished with long tie-up detail at the back.

The modern-day version of this classic royal pick loaned its first draft, from the sky-blue gown that Princess Diana wore to the Cannes Film Festival in the year 1987. A version of this close to almost three-decade-old piece then crawled up to our screens, thanks to Elizabeth and Dior. Styling the look, Debicki chose diamonds from Dior Joaillerie, the category she serves as an ambassador to and dressed her tresses into a romantic, low bun.

Keeping up with the simplicity of her gown was Debicki’s face makeup, which touched up her eyes with a thin eyeliner, and left the rest in its most natural state, for a minimal look. What we loved about her ensemble was a slight splash of yellow-gold bangles, that aimed at packaging the soft-met-edgy look.
