The fashion industry can be a tough nut to crack, especially when you’re new in an alien land. While the world of fashion and films have shared an unsaid comfortable relationship, celebrities at times have spoken about facing rejections from designer labels, who are always making a note of their criteria. Yes, that’s right, believe it or not, the biggest names in fashion have been cruel to artists from the entertainment world, in times of need. And highlighting her struggle in that lane is now actress Yami Gautam.
Yes, in an interview with The Indian Express, Yami spoke about her struggles of finding a designer outfit for events or promotions, as she opened up about the cruel ‘criteria.’ Sharing a personal experience, Yami explained how some high-end designers are never open to give out their outfits because you’re simply not ‘so and so.’ Taking about the problems within the fashion industry and the ‘entire system,’ Yami spoke about an incident when a designer refused to rent her a lehenga and said– ‘No, just doesn’t work with that designer.” She further expressed how that incident made her feel bad, and reminded herself, “You are doing great in whatever you’re doing, and never try to fit in someone’s attire.” That’s so true.

Well, there’s no doubt about Yami’s distinct sartorial style, something she exhibited even on her special day when she chose to wear her family’s heirloom saree instead of a designer piece.
While this isn’t the first time that a celebrity spoke about a similar experience, previously actress Hina Khan also opened up about the many times, designers refused to lend her outfits, just because she was a television actress. As bizarre, as it sounds, the harsh realities of both the fashion and film world at times can be surprising, and we hope the system soon improves for the better.
