Couture is finally getting a well-deserved spot in Indian fashion and we’re enjoying every new little experiment by designers. From grandeur visible on red carpet gowns to pushing the envelope with saree designs, over-the-top creations have become a favourite amongst celebrities too. As visible at India’s biggest fashion event–NMACC Gala, we saw a burst of couture blouses on our Instagram feed. From Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor to newly-married Alanna Panday, stars are definitely loving the idea of creative craftsmanship. This unique approach by designers given to Indian festive and traditional wear is not only a new perspective put on couture, but a grand celebration of India’s history in fashion design. So, we bring to you some of our favourite couture blouse moments from the past few weeks, to dress you up for your next summer wedding.

1. Gigi’s Gold Galore

Gigi Hadid was one of the most well-dressed attendees at the prestigious NMACC Gala. For her fabulous visit to India, the supermodel paid tribute to the country’s craftsmanship and culture in a couture, concept saree by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. The Chikankari white, slit saree was combined with a heavy, gilded gold blouse, soaked in tassels and sequins. The Kamasutra-inspired jacket blouse on Hadid exuded sensual glamour and presented India’s finest hand-embroidered details in the most ethereal form. Not only is the design a bold display of Hadid’s strong persona but gives a feminine twist to the colour gold. The design can truly be a masterpiece in your ensemble, and can easily be combined with a dull drape, or even a simple skirt.

2. Sharvari’s Pearl Power

Actress Sharvari Wagh also displayed her growing love for couture in an Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla saree. The standout element in the ensemble was Wagh’s pearl-soaked blouse with monumental sleeves. The embroidered blouse sewn with crystals and pearls featured an ethereal fan-sleeved detail to match the dramatic ruffles of her tulle saree. Besides the colour white, the monumental sleeves and the incorporation of pearls, make this design a perfect pick for summer weddings. You can easily pair the couture blouse with a saree of your choice, colour block with a dramatic bold drape or tone it down with a monochromatic pairing like Sharvari.

3. Shilpa’s Sexy Blouse

Actress Shilpa Shetty is known for her collection of sultry cut blouses, concept sarees and experimental jewellery. She recently delivered a fabulous saree moment at an event, in an underwire blouse design. The signature Qbik, underwire blouse on Shilpa was a witty twist to the bralette silhouette. Not only is the design a creative spin on summer fashion, but a versatile piece to hoard in your wardrobe. Be it a saree or a pair of denim jeans, the blouse design will work with anything and everything.

4. Mira’s Shredded Couture

In the past few weeks, we have seen the rise of designer Anamika Khanna’s idea of shredded couture. With hand-embroidered, cut-work pieces, fabric slits and crowded floral designs, Khanna’s unique twist to traditional wear is attracting the attention of many celebrities. Mira Kapoor, being one of the many consistent buyers of Khanna’s creative designs, sported a mix-media blouse from her label. Featuring cold shoulders and a heavy mix of colours and patterns, Kapoor’s couture blouse interestingly was paired with a similarly embroidered skirt. The bohemian elegance of the design can easily make it to your summer wedding closet.

5. Natasha’s Feather Drama

Popular media personality–Natasha Poonawalla is known for her collection of designer wear. Her maximalist approach towards fashion is not only a delight for fashion nerds, but it also speaks a lot about her attention to the tiniest of details. Just recently, Poonawalla provided a unique twist to the Indian blouse with feathers. The signature Manish Malhotra opulence, mixed with feathered collars found a match in Malhotra’s special Mijwan saree. Again mixing couture with Chikankari, Poonawalla’s royal blouse in the shade of white and ivory is a perfect addition to your summer wedding closet.

6. Shraddha’s Paithani Corset

Shraddha Kapoor’s love affair with Maharashtra’s Paithani is an interesting fashion story for her fans. This growing obsession with the culture veteran saree pattern led Shraddha to experiment at the NMACC Gala. For the special night, the actress gave a delightful twist to Paithani, with a unique, layered corset blouse. The sculpted design with fringed hemlines and a unique asymmetrical neckline was a youthful, modern-day twist to Paithani. Here, you can take inspiration from Shraddha’s idea of bridging traditions with trends and creating your very own style.

7. Alia’s Sliver Chic

All thanks to stylist/film producer Rhea Kapoor, we saw a new side to Alia Bhatt’s personal style at the NMACC musical night. For the biggest celebration of Indian fashion, Bhatt walked the red carpet in a crumpled saree by Vaishali S, teamed with a slim couture blouse. The off-shoulder design with a sweat heart neckline displayed Vaishali’s signature floral cutwork spread and exaggerated fabric tassels at the back. A roomy silhouette to opt for a summer wedding, this blouse is perfect to team with a cocktail saree.

8. Alanna’s Kissing Crane Blouse

Newly married model and cousin to Ananya Panday–Alanna, was the prettiest bride in her treasure of couture designs. Panday recently tied the knot with long-time boyfriend Ivor and exhibited her fine fashion taste throughout her wedding festivities. While the entire bridal lookbook by Alanna, was a treat for every fashion gworl, her beautiful mehendi lehenga by designer Rahul Mishra caught the most attention. The hand-embroidered ‘Calathea’ bralette with kissing cranes in gold was not only a nod to the beautiful beginning of her love story but also a creative spin on Indian couture. Perfect for tropical weddings, the design is a standout element in the ensemble, and can easily elevate any look. The heavily detailed cutwork design displays Panday’s love for details and is an unconventional choice to make.

9. Ananya’s Barbie Dreams

Ananya Panday was the prettiest bridesmaid at cousin Alanna’s summer wedding in a gorgeous Amit Aggarwal lehenga. For one of the pre-wedding functions, Panday gave a modern-day spin to the Indian silhouette with a crafted couture blouse in candy pink. The structured bustier blouse fit Ananya like a second skin, and beautifully embodied the signature design ideologies of Aggarwal’s designer house. The colour pink was also a witty choice made by Ananya for a summer wedding.
