Fashion’s Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Obsession Returns With A Familiar Misreading

The Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy fever has taken over my Instagram, so here's my take on the trend.

Fashion’s Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy Obsession Returns With A Familiar Misreading

The chokehold that Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s 90’s style has on fashion right now is one for the books. In 2026, the internet is back to treating jeans and a black T-shirt like they’ve descended from the heavens. The slip dress is back, and a black coat with sunglasses is the new IT trend we must follow. Because yes, you can recreate her wardrobe with that sleek bun, but what made her iconic wasn’t the ensembles; it was the context. Read to know our thoughts here!

About Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy

In the 90s, fashion was logo-heavy and a bit maximal. Though brands like Calvin Klein were already pushing for minimalism, CBK’s style made it feel less like a campaign and more like a conviction. She wasn’t dressing for content nor for building a personal brand. That’s the part the internet forgot because style is personality made visible. Her restraint mirrored how she was perceived: present but never begging to be seen. The clean lines worked for her because the simplicity wasn’t empty but intentional. And that’s exactly what you may be obsessed with.

The internet doesn’t crave another beige blazer; it craves coherence. We crave someone whose outer image matches their inner world. In a time when aesthetics are curated to death, her wardrobe felt instinctive. After spending years deep in quiet luxury, the pendulum had just started swinging towards playfulness with more colour and more fun. Meanwhile, Calvin Klein is thriving off the revival, and the industry understands what you’re buying.

And while it’s nice to make her the new IT girl and recreate her style to have some fun, this can also be taken as a message to dress as one’s personality and have fun with it. CBK knew what worked for her body type, and in 2026, it should be our motto too. Dress like you, if you’re loud, be loud, or romantic, or soft, or in all black. When your personality and clothes are in sync, that’s when it becomes magic, as it did for Carolyn Bessette.
