The Car Wash Skirt — Would You Wear It?

The Car Wash Skirt — Would You Wear It?

A regular statement I make post every fashion week is: “Can this piece just get in my wardrobe right now?!” Yes, there’s always that one piece of clothing you have your eyes on after fashion month, and for me it’s the “car wash” skirt. You read that right.

A distant cousin of the fringed skirt, a car wash skirt is one where the hem literally looks like the top brush at a car wash thanks to the wide strips of fabric. The divided, multiple panels give these skirts some serious swish and movement, and were a prominent feature in Fall 2015 collections by Proenza Schouler, Tommy Hilfiger, Christian Dior, J. Crew and Oscar de la Renta. Closer home, we spotted this skirt in Tanieya Khanuja’s collection for AIFW 2016. A serious statement piece, I think it’s a great way to show a little skin without committing to high slits!

Jacqueline Fernandez Car wash Skirt_Solo Hauterfly

Recently, Jacqueline Fernandez was spotted in a car wash skirt by Dior at an event in Delhi. While I don’t quite like the ripped-from-the-runway-look (lack of imagination on the stylist’s part?) the actress did manage well (she looks super cute no matter what she wears, no?).

Team a car wash skirt with a short shirt dress and cinch it at the waist with a wide belt: quite a rad look for an evening out, I think. Else tuck in a formal shirt for a chic work look. And if you like it casual, just team it with a cropped sweater and a pair of sporty sneakers and you’re fall ready.
