Aditi Rao Hydari Turned To Sabyasachi For Another Day At Cannes 2022. It’s A Nun Nah For Us

This year’s Cannes Film Festival has been a witness to only a few awesome and many ailing fashion looks. From Deepika Padukone’s no-brainer choice of Sabyasachi to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s floral Dolce And Gabbana, Indian divas have made sure of a strong female representation but in terms of style, I am sorry ladies.

Turning to the red carpet on Day 5, actress Aditi Rao Hydari trusted designer Sabyasachi and we’re still thinking if she should have. For her second red carpet appearance, Aditi walked the red carpet in the designer’s black lace gown. The hand-embroidered gown featured a mix of floral motifs attached to a nude coloured lining. The full sleeve, tulle dress was definitely not a great choice, since lace gowns sealed with nude-shaded lining are already a ‘done and dusted’ piece on the red carpet. While that was not it, Aditi teamed the look with a statement Sabyasachi belt, featuring his signature Royal Bengal Tiger motif. And just like Deepika’s first look at Cannes this year, Aditi played along with Y2K’s favourite headbands and picked a pink one for her grand appearance. I mean, Anjali is that you?

Going easy on jewels, Aditi picked a sturdy choker and stacked it with two dainty, locket chains and added multiple hoop earrings to finish off the look. For makeup, Aditi went the old school way, as she decided to decorate her forehead with a tiny black bindi and opted for a minimal glow. Just like how I am not a big fan of the usual lace dresses, the semi-ethnic look wasn’t enough for any kind of statement-making whatsoever. From the choice of the dress, which featured flat tonal embroidery to the colour of her headband and even the jewels, which could have easily been replaced with chunky pearls, in this case, everything falls flat with no dimension given to the dress.

A missed opportunity as we say, many from the internet pariwaar seemed to be nodding with us as they reacted, “Reminds of old times bakery aunty,” “Whyyyy the headband,” “This is tragic,” “Disappointing to say the least..” Interestingly many also compared Aditi to Johannes Vermeer’s famous painting–’Girl With A Pearl Earring.’ I mean ya sure, but where’s the pearl?

This look is even more disappointing after we’ve seen Aditi collaborating with India’s most celebrated designer Sabyasachi for her Day 1 look at Cannes in a sheer saree. I mean, the two are capable of a lot lot lot more, hence we all hope to only see the best.
