Boi’s Budget Buys: The Trench Dress

Trench coats and dresses always remind me of London. You too? There’s something so English about this style — I can totally imagine myself strutting down the British capital in one of these. Trenches spell luxury, sensuality, and a touch of formal-ness — all in one. So, since Mumbai’s weather has been dreary and rainy, much like London’s, I decided to pick a trench coat dress for this week’s budget outfit.

OK, I’ll ‘fess up — this one is a trench coat, not a dress. But do you see any reason you can’t wear it as a dress — especially since weather in India is rarely conducive to coats? I don’t. A little peek-a-boo never hurt anyone, and if you’re not in the mood for it, then slip on a vest below the dress.

When wearing a dress like such, let it be the piece in focus. So pair it with minimal accessories like the gold wire cuff and a tan handbag (I love the tan+military green colour combo). And always add a surprise element to your outfits — those are the details that make heads turn. And these mint green canvas sneakers do just that. The yummy shade perfectly offsets the otherwise sober, sexy, grown-up trench dress. If you wanna go even crazier, wear a bright pair of socks — think hot pink or one with stripes.
