How To Pick The Best Jeans For Your Body Type

There is nothing I hate more than denim shopping. Why, you ask? Well, more often than not, I come back depressed and disappointed with what I find in stores. Trust me, it almost feels as bad as swimsuit shopping, simply because it takes way too much time, and nothing ever seems to fit right.

Just like shoes, the right pair of jeans can make or break your look. In fact, a flattering pair can actually make you feel confident, and make you look hot as hell! However, unless you have the body of Gigi Hadid or Kendall Jenner, finding the right pair of jeans is just as difficult as finding true love. The options, styles and varieties are endless, but they just don’t seem right for you.

Hence, to make denim shopping a little bit easier, here’s a concise guide on how to choose the best jeans for your body type. Whether you have thick thighs, short legs or wide hips, with these handy tips, you’re sure to find the right pair for you.

Straight or Athletic

When you have a straight physique, mid rise with a straight silhouette is the way to go. It cinches and highlights your waist, and gives your butt a lift.

If you have an athletic figure, you can also wear bell bottoms as they add some shape and dimension to your look. The hem will balance with your shoulders and create the illusion of curves in between. If bell bottoms are not your style, try boyfriend jeans. They are great for that slouchy, laid-back and lived-in look. Try tucking your top into the jeans, as it gives the illusion of curves.

Curvy

For the curvy girls out there, it is vital that your jeans are stretchy enough to take the shape of your curves. Make sure your jeans end at your ankle, as jeans that are too long can make you look stubby.

If you carry a lot of weight around your hips, then a pair of wide-legged jeans would be perfect. The flare, starting below the knee, helps balance the hips out.

One thing to keep in mind, is to wear jeans that are modelled after trousers. If wide-legged is not your style, then go for a slim fit, but avoid skinny, tight fit and high-waisted jeans, which will draw negative attention to your middle area.

Lastly, remember that darker wash denims like dark blue or black instantly take at least 5 kgs off of you, making your legs look longer.

Petite

If you are a shorter or petite girl, cropped jeans are your best bet as they will elongate your legs. Just make sure they are cropped at the ankles. If you have a smaller waist, you can accentuate it with a pair of mid-rise jeans. Low-rise jeans will also showcase your petite build.

Avoid wearing bootcut jeans; the flared hem will only make you look like you’re drowning in denim.

Pro tip: Pair your jeans with a pair of high-heeled sandals to add length.

Hourglass

When you have an hourglass figure, the proportion of the jeans is very important! Flare and bootcut silhouettes help balance out your hourglass shape. Make sure it is mid-rise and has stretch, so it can contour your body and accentuate your booty.

While you’re at it, stay away from boyfriend jeans, as they are baggy and not one bit flattering for your sexy curves. When picking a top, try to pick a corset style top, a crop top, or something that highlights your tiny waist to further enhance your perfect hourglass shape.
