Zahra’s Life Is Infinitely Simpler Thanks To This Dry Shampoo

If you’re a busy girl — between going to college or the office, and the gym or socialising in the evenings, who isn’t busy? — you usually don’t wash your hair very often, and certainly not every day. Personally, having long, curly hair means it’s my least favourite activity in the whole wide world. Shampooing and conditioning my hair takes a looooong time, not to mention the manageability issues curly hair presents. Then there’s the drying and styling — considering I’m not a morning person, you can imagine how annoying my mornings are on days when I wash my hair (twice a week).

For all of these reasons and more, I thank the beauty goddesses every day for the invention of dry shampoo. I honestly don’t know what I did before I started using one. For lazy girls like me, dry shampoo is a godsend because it not only soaks up oil from a greasy scalp but also cleans hair without water and keeps it smelling fresh until the next wash. But the best part? It also adds a good dose of volume to boost your hair’s confidence when it’s feeling particularly dull and droopy.

So when I discovered that Nykaa has just introduced Batiste’s dry shampoos on its website, I did a little happy dance. No more asking girlfriends to pick it up for me on travels abroad!

Batiste Dry Shampoo Clean & Classic Original

Batiste (and my other favourite Klorane) is among the best drugstore dry shampoos out there right now. I have oily roots and super dry, curly hair, and this product has been a lifesaver on so many occasions. A few strategic spritzes and my hair looks like it’s been freshly washed. It makes my head feel super clean, turns my hair super soft, and gives it nice, thick body. What’s more, it’s got a pleasant, citrusy, clean smell that’s not overwhelming.

Always shake the can really well before use, then spray it in short bursts far away from your roots. It does leave a white cast (so don’t apply too much), but that vanishes once you massage the product into your hair. It dries really quickly, though, so you must do this instantly. Then brush it out and style as usual.

A few of you might be tempted to try the Batiste dry shampoo for dark hair (which sprays on dark brown), but my experience with it hasn’t been great. It tends to dye the scalp, and if you sleep on it be prepared for stained pillow covers in the morning. That’s why I’ve gone back to the original version and never been happier.

Just a word of caution when using dry shampoos: moderation is everything. Just like you wouldn’t use mattifying primer on your face daily without washing it, the same holds true for dry shampoo. It’s just covering up your scalp’s oil and dirt — not ridding it — so don’t go many, many days wearing it daily and not without washing it out. Overuse can lead to build-up and irritate your scalp, and that’s just not pretty.

Having said that, a good dry shampoo — used responsibly — will forever simplify your life!
